Can those who had IVF answer a few questions for me?

My sister is having IVF. Eggs have been fertalised and now on day 4. She has decided not to tell anybody anything else so that if she does fall pregnant it will be a surprise. All she has said is that she probably wont be implanted ths weekend because of something being too high. Something to do with a blood test? What reasons wouldnt the egg be implanted?

The only thing I can think of is that she had a bad reaction to the drugs and has overstimulated ovaries which can be very dangerous. A lot of hospitals will make you wait for another month to wait for everything to calm down and to give a better chance of it working next time.

yes thats it. why is it dangerous? she has just phoned and said only 3 eggs to freeze. she is upset because hoped for more and to be implanted this weekend. tbh this is my first dealings with IVF and I know so little about it. i dont like to keep hassling her with questions, especially as she doesnt really want to talk about it.

OHSS can kill in really severe forms, otherwise will make you feel really uncomfortable and bloated. I think a lot of hospitals would prefer not to implant embryos in those circs because the pessaries can exacerbate any problems I think.

3 embryos surviving after 4 days is pretty good though - usually only thefairly strong ones last until 4 days so she can have two attempts on this cycle of IVF and the drs will have a much better idea about why she is having problems conceiving so can tailor another cycle better if necessary.

There is also a suggestion that embryos which have been frozen and survive the freezing and defrosting process are stronger so that isn't a bad thing (the result of a frozen embryo is currently kicking his mobile and loudly demanding to be fed atm).

She can though go and have a glass of wine or two if she drinks. No impact on chances of pregnancy at the moment.
