hi there

i just wondered if anyone had bought clomid when it wasn't prescribed and used it - and obviously if ithelped them?

I'm not advocating this at all, just want to hear people's opinions and stories.

Thanks

Its not a good idea to use clomid unless it has been prescribed because it is actually quite powerful stuff with some definate side effects (breast discomfort being just one of them). It should only be used as well when there are problems with ovulation.

As it is quite powerful too, monitoring should be done (ideally blood tests and ultrasounds) whilst on it as there is no way of determining otherwise if it is doing what it is supposed to. It can affect levels of LH markedly hence blood tests.

It should only be used for a maximum of six months after which time other treatments should be tried.

Its main job is to work the ovaries harder.

Surely if there was a need for it it would be prescribed? What would be the point in taking it if you weren't in need of it? to get multiples?

Sorry I sound rude, not intended!

Clomid doesn't get you pregnant, it just tricks your ovaries into working harder. If you have not had any investigations done to see if your Ovaries are working ok then you shouldn't self-prescribe Clomid. If you have problems getting pregnant it could be for one of many reasons including your DP's sperm count.

Make sure you have all these tests done before buying clomid without prescription.
