Keep getting almost +ve OPK's but no AF. NOT pg.

Am still bf'g 10 month old DD and got into OPK's when I was TTC DD. Had bad time with first period after DS so thought I would try to work out when it might arrive this time.

I keep getting almost +ve OPKs every few days but AF never arrives. Get AF like symptoms every few weeks but that goes. AF hasnt arrived but definately not pregnant as I have tested- frequently!

Not TTC, just would be grateful if anyone who knows about OPK's can explain this.

I have a hormonal imbalance ( am currently ttc) but can't use the opk's as they give a reading which is not accurate. The opk's measure LH surge. If you are still bf then your hormones are not likely to be settled and therefore thats probably why you are getting odd readings. I should give them a miss!

I had pretty much given up on them but got addicted to POAS when TTC and had some left over. They are only cheap internet ones but seemed reliable then and was still bf'g DS at the time.

Can I ask what hormonal imbalance you have or is that too personal?

I too, have constant "positive" ovulation tests. I discovered recently that I have very polycystic ovaries (no symptoms other than messed up cycles), and found out that this can cause the problem with OPKs. I definitely wouldn't rely on them if you're getting continual positives.

hi Davidsmom, I have high FSH and LH so nightmare ttc. Thats why I can;t use opk's as they measure the LH but mine is generally high. i also have very irregular cycles. Probaby better to look at physiological effects of ovulation and work out when af might come after this. hth
