Ovarian Cyst - False BFP???

Hi, I'm officially going loopy here. Saw a consultant last month who said that I had an ovarian cyst and he thought that I wasn't ovulating, he also said that he thought that the lining of my womb was thinner than it should be.

Anyway, AF was late and boobs felt very full - so i decided to do a hpt just to rule it out. And I got a BFP. BUT it does say that ovarian cysts can effect the results. I've also done a clearblue digital with conception indicator and it said Pregnant 2-3 weeks (so not the lowest level of hgh.)

I understand that in rare cases the cyst can make me produce hgh but can it really make me produce enough to stop my periods, make my boobs feel full and make me feel a bit sick???

DH says it must be a false positive and he doesn't want me to get excited but it is sooooo hard not to.

Anyone have any thoughts???

Hi I've just read a few things and googled a few things and it seems like one of those things no one can answer! you'll just have to wait and see, which is awful, but if you get your hopes up too much you'll have a harder disappointment if it is negative. Go back to your consultant and ask him to do a blood test to measure your bHCG levels and see what he says. Thinking about it too much and trying not to think about it can cause psycosomatic symptoms such AF being late. Sorry if thats not helpful, just didn't want it to go unanswered

Thanks. I am trying not to think about it honestly I am .

I have to add that the symptoms started before i did the first test. eg. boobs and lack of AF - that's what made me do the test.

I don't even know if a blood test would be believable, googling comes up with people who had pos blood tests that were false as well. I guess I'll just have to wait till no AF for quite a long time then ask for a scan. OMG how stressful would that scan be. "Is there a baby in there?"

What a great time for this to happen just when I'm meant to be festive and jolly (no I don't work as an in-store Santa!).

Good luck to anyone else in the same boat - is that why you bumped MyMy??

Have you contacted your doctor to get a blood test and ask them what's happening? I think that's the way to go.

Merry Christmas - I hope it all works out just the way you want!

Hi, update incase anyone in same boat is following:-

I spoke to my consultants secretary and she said she'd check with him. She called back on 23rd dec and said that the consultant said he thought false positives caused by cysts were a load of rubbish. He said he thought I PROBABLY was preg and suggested I get scanned at 6.5 weeks.

I'm now on day 36, still no AF, still very full boobs and slight nausea in morning. I do feel pregnant and I have had 3 posititive test. However, I wont fully believe it until the scan which is unfortunately a week and a half away. In the meantime I'm the designated driver and I wake up every day thinking, "Great my boobs are still killing me!" I'll try to remember to update this thread after the scan just to complete the story cos I hate it when i google things and read old threads where people forget to update and you're left wondering - "Well was she preg or not?"

Happy New Year to all.

Good luck, hope it all goes well at your scan, will keep an eye out for this thread as like to know how it goes.

Not really the same situation but when I was pg with dd2 I had a pain in my side and went to the gp at around 7 ish wks pg. As we were about to go to Australia for a month they sent me for a scan at 8 weeks which discovered an ovarian cyst - and a healthy baby with a strong heartbeat.

So it is possible to have both at the same time. Good luck, it sounds positive to me

hippychick66 · 29/12/2009 20:30

Thanks for the positive messages. Will defo update for you.

Went to GP today. She said I am definitely preg as she does see any other way of getting 4 BFP's. I wont get a scan until 8-10 weeks but I am getting a blood test tomorrow to confirm it.

She also said I probably haven't got a cyst - she thinks what the consultant saw was the corpus luteum - you'll have to google if you're interested - too complicated to explain.

I am now pretty convinced that I am pregnant - thanks for everyone's support.
