Breastfeeding and Conceiving

Hi,

I have a 3 yr old DS and a DS who is almost 9months. We'd like to start trying for our 3rd ASAP however I'm still BF DS2 (3 times in 24hr period) AND my periods have not yet returned.

Is there any chance of conceiving now? Will nothing happen until my periods start again or will it take until I stop BF DS2? (which will be when he's atleast 12months old)

Any advice much appreciated! x

i read that the longer you have bene breastfeeding, the more likely it is you will ovulate before your periods return.

do you get any symptoms of ovulation?

it certainly is possible to get pregnant whilst still breastfeeding, and so i would just start trying and see what happens

not having/had any symptoms at all. I breast fed DS1 until he was 13 months and my periods returned when he was 9.5 months but we didn't start trying for DS2 until a couple of yrs later.

Don't suppose it does any harm to start trying but it makes it difficult to know if/when i'll be pregnant as I won't have missed a period!
Thanks for your reply.

could be worth getting some cheap ovulation sticks from ebay - then you can check if you are ovulating... I did that when trying for DS2 - I was pretty sure that I was ovulating but felt better having it confirmed. Good luck
