What can give a false positive result?

I got a BFP yesterday, tested with Superdrug own brand. Was on CD32 (but my cycle is irregular)

It was a definite line, VERY visible by about 30 secs. So I didn't doubt it at all (you know, no holding under lightbulbs or anything )

But read through the leaflet earlier and it gave a list of its 'limitations'... ie, fertility drugs giving false positives. But also PCOS and some other (very serious) medical conditions can do this

Am I being ridiculous to start doubting the result now?! In the past I have tested numerous times in the first weeks of pg to reassure myself

False positives are very rare and occur for the reasons you read on the leaflet and rarely due to a faulty test.

You are pg. I was a serial tester too so know how hard it is to believe the evidence of your eyes.

That doesn't read right. Stick a comma in after rarely or substitute for occasionally for clarification.

I've just had the same happen to me today, again with a superdrug own brand test. I came off the pill at the start of September and have so far had 2 periods each 6 weeks apart. But - prior to DD I was very very irregular. Not totally convinved I'm pregnant either yet, will do another test in a few days. But, it does seem unlikely that the positive result is false.
