Has anyone put a special case forward re the lower age limit for IVF

My DSis and her DH went to see a fertility consultant today re IVF (her DH has an inheritable disease), and were told that she is too young. She's 20, he's 24. They've only been married for 1 month, but both want to have children ASAP. They've been told that they need to put a special case forward, and will get a decision in March. The normal lower age limit is 23.

Is this age limit the same in all parts of the UK? Any idea if the challenge is likely to be successful? Is there anywhere they can get a starting point for their letter?

The HFEA licenses fertility clinics and centres carrying out in vitro fertilisation (IVF), other assisted conception procedures and human embryo research.

I would suggest they contact them in the first instance. Their website is www.hfea.gov.uk and has lots of information on it including contact details.

Is the age limit related to them wanting NHS treatment rather than IVF per se? Im not aware of any legal minimum age for IVF?

Yes, they're trying to get NHS funded IVF.

Thanks for that link Attila. I can see from the HEFA website that the NICE guidelines say you should be aged between 23 and 39.
