Any Clomid successes 5 cycles on??

Hello all. Just after some reasurrance really. I have just started my 5th month of clomid and have that "is it going to work?" feeling. I'm starting to think, if it was going to work, it would have by now. I've spent a fair bit of time googling clomid successes, but they tend to be in the first three cycles.

Anyone had a success 5 cycles on? Would really love to hear from you. Could really do with a boost

Thanks ladies xx

I had seven and got PG in the eighth month (i.e. the first month off the stuff!). Body went a bit mad, finally produced a decent egg, and DD is now 4!

The very best of luck xxx

That's interesting!! Wonder why redqueen.
Keep the success stories coming please!! It's doing me the world of good xx

DD is the result of cycle 6. We did have a month break before the magic cycle, our consultant has no idea why but says often it happens that way. We booked a big holiday in South Africa for post cycle 6 and I spent it hiding in my room with morning, noon and night sickness

TheRedQueen · 16/11/2009 19:22

It's apparently quite common for the "month after" to be successful. My consultant said it's a bit like coming off the pill: you can go into hormone overdrive while your body settles down. I would have to second oopsandbabycoconut's idea of planning something else too though: we had booked a ski-ing holiday as a wind-down post-cycle seven ......

popsy1 · 17/11/2009 18:07

Were you advised to take a break or did you decide you needed a month or two off?
Did you also feel that it wasn't going to work?
Hope you don't mind all the questions, just seeking advise, reassurance and support.

No we weren't advised to take a break, I had a horrible chest infection at the end of the 5th cycle and decided to skip a month so I was more up for it when I was better. I wasn't sure it was going to work, I always told myself it wasn't a miracle drug and there could be more steps to getting our baby. We made our IVF appointment took the last dose and relaxed about the whole thing knowing we had a holiday and IVF booked.

popsy1 · 17/11/2009 18:51

We have an appointment with our cons on 22nd December, so will see what the next steps for us are. They seemed to think we wouldn't have a problem, so expecting the cons to say have another couple of months on clomid!!!
Did your cons offer anything else apart from IVF as next steps?
xx

OP posts:
oopsandbabycoconut · 17/11/2009 18:54

No IVF was our next level although they were going to offer another 3 months to tide us over until the appointment. Have you been monitored on clomid? Are they sure it is making your OV? I had my dose increased to 100mg and then it worked.

popsy1 · 17/11/2009 19:58

I started off on 50mg scanned etc no follicles. Upped dose to 100mg, on cycle 2, one large follicle and ovulation bloods done to confirm so they've just said to carry on as i'm on the right dose.
I suppose i just didn't expect it to take so long. I've conceived twice naturally and all the other tests came back ok so they said there shouldn't be a problem.
maybe hubby and i have been a little to hopeful!!
thank you for all your advise. there don't seem too many people that have conceived on clomid after the 3 months. Its reassuring to know that there are some {smile] Would love to hear some more!!

Reading with interest, I've just finished cycle 4 and still nothing. I have very long cycles and so trying in vain to work out when (or even if) I've ovulated. Good to hear of the success stories!

TheRedQueen · 17/11/2009 21:11

We were told that if it hadn't happened after seven consecutive cycles then it wasn't likely to, but that we could continue if we wanted. We had also been told that IVF would be the next step, and had an appointment for about two further months down the line. As it happened, we only actually took the break we did because it was Christmas and I had worked out that I would basically be having to run to the clinic over Christmas/New Year for all the monitoring (and couldn't face it!).

I generally had one to two ripe follicles per cycle at a dose of 100mg. I also used to have an HCG(?) injection at the time of ovulation and then another a week later, plus progesterone tablets/injections for 12 days after ovulation. Our problem was not that I was not ovulating, but that I was ovulating too early (about day 9), seemingly before the egg was really mature enough and the hormone levels high enough to support a pregnancy. The whole point of the process was therefore to try and get some "control" over the ovulation and make it occur in optimal conditions.

There is no doubt that in the month I came off the clomid, I had a massive hormonal shift and ovulation occurred a good five days later than usual (on about day 14). The hormone levels must also have been much higher than normal because I remember seeing loads of egg-white mucus, which I had never really seen before. I asked the Consultant about all this later on and, while he said that it could just have been that I was more relaxed that month as the pressure was off, he also said that it may well have been the incremental effect of the very many cycles I had been on the chlomid. I do therefore think it was worth persevering, even if it all felt pretty hopeless at the time.

Do keep us posted as to how you get on. Will keep my fingers and toes very tightly crossed for you.

popsy1 · 18/11/2009 17:57

Thanks RedQueen really apprecite your advice. I only have 21 day bloods now and they have come back over 30 (my cons says that means i've ovulated). BD on cd 9 onwards so not really sure what/if is going wrong. I dont have to have injections, just clomid 100mg.
Hi Clure how many cycles has your doc given you? I have enough for one more cycle but, cons appointment comes just at the beginning of cycle6.
Have you been told what your next steps are? How are you feeling about starting month5?
I'm on CD 6, how about you?

hi popsy, my consultant gave me 6 cycles, but given my age and incredibly high FSH levels he suggested ivf with donor eggs. (which I'm still having trouble getting my head around) At the moment my cycles are very irregular and I can go around 2-3 months without a period. Have taken provera a couple of times to induce period so that I can take clomid (100mg). Had a bfn about a week ago. Been doing reflexology and she suggested maybe I was ovulating later, and so we are bding a bit later into the cycle this time. I'm toying with the idea of having a month off from clomid, not sure really. My next consultant appointment in January. sorry long post!!

popsy1 · 18/11/2009 19:05

Please don't apologise for long post, its good to hear from you.My cycles vary but only between 31 -39 days. I've also decided to go for reflexology, but sure if it'll make any difference but its really relaxing!!
I'm not looking forward to my appointment, not sure what they will say. Will have to wait and see. Hopefully i wont need to go . What an amazing xmas present.

Hi clure. When in your cycle do u go for yr reflexology?
Xx

OP posts:
Clure · 19/11/2009 20:40

I have been throughout, given I'm usually not sure where I am in my cycle!! My reflexologist felt "something happening" in my ovary area which may have been ovulation but again am not sure. Have to say I had a not very good reaction to the reflexology - I was told i had a lot of toxins to flush out. Have you had reflexology before? Think its worth it, even if you just enjoy the foot massage at the end!!

popsy1 · 19/11/2009 21:00

I've had 2 sessions now. First one was lovely and very relaxing but didn't feel much else. I had my second one earlier today and now have quite bad cramps. Hopefully that's a good sign . I'm on cd7 thought it might be good to do it at begining of cycle. She suggested I ask my cons.

I like redqueen came off after 6 months and conceived then. I like clure had some reflexology session.
The cycle I came off I was so much more relaxed and didnt even think I would conceive as was awaiting further treatment but we did.
Hope this gives you a little hope

Sometimes imo I think I just needed to trust my body( how very philosophical but nevermind)

popsy1 · 25/11/2009 17:10

Thanks allthatjazz that seems to be a theme. Think this will be my last cycle. So fingers crossed xx

Thx Popsy1, will do. I've read that loads of grapefruit juice might help. I tried to order pre-seed from Boots, does anyone know where to get it besides the internet?
