Anyone interested in joining me on an IUI thread ?

I am hoping there are some other ladies having or about to have IUI that might like to share their journeys.

I find that the 'normal' conception threads don't really apply, and the assisted conception threads are dominated by IVF which is so different I don't really feel that I have much in common there either...

I have had four cycles of IUI. Three were about two years ago when I conceived my DS and one was last month when I again got pregnant but mc at 6wks. We're having IUI because I'm 40 and despite two years of trying before DS we couldn't conceive naturally. There have been no issues diagnosed for either of us but it just wasn't working so we thought we'd give IUI a try. It was a big shock and obviously very disappointing to mc this time but I'm trying to think positive - two pregnancies in four cycles is fantastic

We will be starting again after xmas (need to give the body and mind time to fully recover) and will be keeping everything crossed...I desperately don't want to do IVF, especially as I know that IUI works for us

Hi Beaufies, I'd love to join you on this thread, we are seeing our consultant on Monday to discuss our next step which i am 100% expecting to be IUI before IVF. If i'm honest i don't really know anything about it so any advice or help you could give me would be great.

We've been TTC1 for over 4yrs, DH and i are both very optomistic but seems everyone else around us hasn't experienced any problems so we feel like there is so much more pressure on us.

id like to join you! Ive just been referred on to a consultant - meant to get my first appointment soon not sure how far ahead the appointment will be - how long did you have to wait?
my story is i have pcos and was put on clomid which worked but not great, my dp has high abnormal sperm count too so been told that IUI will prob be our next step.
i dont know too much about this read up a bit but always good to chat to someone who is going thru same thing.
Im currently trying to lose weight for it doing well at mo lost a stone couple more to go!
Am looking forward to moving on and getting started.

Can I join in. We will be starting our IUI in January. We have one son who is 6 and we are both 39. Had one m/c before DS was conceived and 2 since. Am taking asprin but so far nothing so we decided to go for the IUI but thought we'd get Christmas out of the way first!

i have been trying to conceive for a year unsuccessfully, and given that i am 35yo, i am considering starting IUI...

can you give me an idea of what to expect in terms of how physically demanding it is. is it "just like a smear" as the clinic has said, or is it more painful/intrusive?

really appreciate any comments/advice!!

Yes the clinic is correct, IUI isn't terribly invasive. We underwent IUI last May following a year of tests to acertain our fertility issues. our tests came back as unexplained hence IUI. Pleased to say that it worked first time for us and we have a beautiful 4 month old girl. The tests normally start with blood tests and urine tests to find out where you are with cycle. You will then have internal scans but the scanner they use is no bigger than the smear instrament. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable if the Dr has to press down to see your insides via the scanner but it isn't that bad I swear. You may have to have a post cotial test, yep do the deed and then go to clinic the next day to test sperm are surviving "up there" (sorry to be graphic but I guess this is what you are after!). The PCT is a bit awkward from a personal view as opposed to physcially uncomfortable but it is just like a smear maybe just takes a few mins longer. This test is to see if your mucus is zapping sperm.
Depending of if you have one, or those results you may then start the actual proceedure. You have specific time lines to adhere too, injections to do at specific times and draw the medication up into needles yourself, but I promise you it is ok. The nurses should show you how to do this and should allow you a test (not actually inject yourself but drawing up the medicine etc). During this time you will have to go to the clinic every other day possibly to check your egg production via an internal scan, when the time is right you get another injection which will release the egg. Once this happens hubby will have to visit the pleasure dome do his bit, and then once this is prepared by the clinic you will actually have the sperm placed where it should be. This is the only thing I found to be slightly painful but won't last long.
It shouldn't be too physically demanding and certainly not badly painful, just uncomfortable. Hope this helps, happy to chat more if you have questions. Best of Luck
