Trying for a girl - how do you do it again? :)

Was just wondering, we are going to try again now and while I'm not too worried either way, it would be nice to have a girl next. I remember there was something to do with ovulation - how does this work with using a persona monitor?

Will watch this as I would like another boy. Habe 2 DDs but no idea how we got them

I only have one ds, but I would like the traditional boy girl boy girl. Would still love another ds, but as ds and dh gang up on me a girl would be welcome too

it's something to do with male sperm being longer living than the female variant (or vice versa). The idea being that if you have sex before ovulation one type is still hanging around to fertilise the egg when it is released. Something like that (she says very vaguely)...

If you want a girl, then you have to have sex just before you ovulate (day 12 for instance). If you want a boy, have sex when you are ovulating.

Obviously not scientific that, but that is the common belief.

DesperateH is right. female sperm are larger, live longer but swim slower. If your ov'ing, the the little, fast male sperm will get there quicker and fert. the egg. If you have sex just before OV the male sperm will get there first, have nowhere to go, swim around in circles then die! The stronger, slower swimming female sperm will then arrive just in time for OV! IN THEORY!

Wow! Has it actually worked for anyone? I mean have you tried and got the sex (or gender ) you were trying for?

Everyone I know has got what they wanted using this concept and pee on stick thingys. i wouldn't recommend if ur desp for baby as you have to stop having sex when blue ov line appears (if trying for girl) or only have sex during blue line time if trying for boy.

Also think that there's something in the theory that some men produce better quality female or male sperm. In these cases I guess nature selects the best quality sperm to produce the healthiest baby

I'm not desperate - we have 2 girls and a boy at the moment. DS is the only boy in the family and I think it would be fun for him to have another boy to play with! Still, my sister is in labour as we speak, so maybe she'll save us the trouble!?!

Another angle: there is research showing that vegetarian women are more likely to have girls. My sister and I are both vegetarian and both of us have two girls.

So what exactly do you do with the persona? So you pee on it and wait till the stick does what? And stop when? Or will it be clear when I start using it?

lunavix, not sure about the persona, friends and I all used clearblue OV predictor sticks. Box and sticks look like preg tests but purple instead of blue.
Not sure when to test this time though as haven't has AF since Jan 04 what with preg and BF so its a waiting game for me.

Only just found this thread but if you are still interested....

• For a girl - 1 part White vinegar mixed with 3 parts water.

• For a boy bi-carbonate of soda mixed with water(sorry do not know amounts)

You then have to douche with the liquid but be careful, use boiled water and sterilised equipment....

Also...

• For a boy the women should orgasm first, as this will mean her environment will then be hostile to female sperm.

• For a girl the women must not orgasm.

I had also used the having sex days before ovulation to conceive a girl as I had read that too. But this is harder to get pregnant by, so after 3 months I tried the vinegar the day before I ovulated and got my girl!!! You should try up to 5 days before you ovulate, and no later than 2 days before, if doing it the natural way.

It is a known fact that men with low sperm counts tend to father girls, so that means lots of sex well before ovulation to lower it.

And for a boy just to have sex once about 12 hours after ovulation I think.

And do you mean white wine vinegar or white 'chip shop' vinegar

I concieved two girls on day 13 of a 28 day cycle so the getting caught before OV theory works I suppose!

Next time not bothered,just going to do it all the time regardless and just hope I get pregnant

Hi jamiesam - sorry for the delay...

Normal White vinegar should be fine.

A good way to douche is to use a plastic syringe that you may use for kids medicine,(but I wouldn't use it for them afterwards..., and then lie down and put it up your ...... before you have sex.

But you have to be very careful it is all sterilised etc. And make sure the water is cool etc.
