IVF advice please...

So after 4 years trying, 3 miscarriages, 6 months of Clomid we are starting IVF - first round starting in January 2010.

Can anyone give me advice please - is there anything I can be doing now to help myself while Im waiting for January to begin.

Can't be of help, but wanted to say 'good luck' and I hope you have the baby you so desperately want.

Um, no booze, no caffeine, conception vits, same for your DP.

Yes we have curbed all the fun things - alcohol, caffeine, sugar etc etc.

I am waiting for my first appointment to come thru for ivf so kinda in same boat.

Been on ww for 5 weeks and lost a stone as got to get my bmi down - they like you to be at 30.

I was also told (as im an occasional social smoker) no smoking at all for 6 months - the drugs they give you work better apparently and my dp also giving up.

basically i think the rule is get as fit as poss. You already doing the right things so keep going!

Can i ask how long your first referral took - i forgot to ask my gp when they said would refer me...

i agree - just look after yourself and feel positive about what you are doing. There are some studies that say acupuncture during IVF can help.

Hi amelied, I'm also planning to start a round of ICSI IVF early next year. Unfortunately I'm not sure when as we're doing some major house renovations and don't have a kitchen at the moment (and haven't for the previous 12 months. And when I say don't have a kitchen I mean exactly that - we've been surviving with a kettle, toaster & microwave in the loft), and I don't want to start until we at least have the kitchen in place, but, getting back to the original point, that should be sometime soon.

We've been TTC for 2 years and this summer we were diagnosed with PCOS (me) and low sperm count (him).

I'm finding it hard to stay motivated with the whole being healthy thing - I do need to lose weight (but at least my BMI is in the "treatable" range). I don't drink much anyway and I don't smoke, so at least that's not a problem.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, if you want an on-line motivation buddy - I'm your girl xx

I have started my first cycle of IVF, second lot injections start tonight, I had to loose some weight still trying very hard now. I have been taking Folic Acid tabs for about 6 months as my gaeny told me to do this(doesn't hurt and it has done wonders for my nails and hair lol)

My Hubby and I are having ICSI, I would be lieing if I said I wasn't scared, but it all started soo fast one minute your being referred next you starting all you injections. It is very exciting.

The only thing I can suggest is take time for your self, try to keep calm and try not to get stressed about stuff. Easier said than done I know.

Also if you get to go to the info evenings go, they give alot of info and advise.

And most importantly Good luck and be kind to your self.

I would really suggest finding something to do over the next couple of months that gives you enjoyment. Find some books that you love, take up a new hobby, learn how to do something new, plan a couple of weekends away, go for regular swims perhaps. Whilst i was undergoing IVF, i learnt how to bake and to knit, just for relaxation and to take my mind off the treatment a little. I also really enjoyed my work over this time and I found that being completely honest with my colleagues about my treatment was really helpful because all pressure was off. Also, i ate loads of fruit and veges and ate very little meat - in fact, i went off meat completely for the treatment and the very very lucky subsequent pregnancy. The drugs made my skin really dry up and so I treated myself to some lovely hand and body lotion and to some face serum that made me feel much better. Good luck to all you ivfers - my thoughts are always with others making this difficult journey.
