First response 6 days early tests

My period should come on Tuesday, so according to first response instructions today would be the sixth day before I am due. I used a first response test yesterday, which was negative. I knew it would be but I frankly lacked the self control not to use it when it was sitting on my bathroom shelf calling out to me!!
I used another one this morning, which was also negative. However, on going through my calendar, since I ovulate late in my cycle I wasn't sure if today was still too early. I phoned first response this morning, it took me a while to speak to anyone with even a basic grasp of biology but eventually spoke to someone who told me that you cannot use their six day early test until 11 days after you ovulate. This would be only one day before my period is due! So much for six days early - they don't put that on the packet! Total waste of time, money and emotional stress! Will inevitably be doing the same thing again on Sunday/Monday as by that time should be within the window in which a six day early test would actually work!! Has anyone else had any bad experiences with using these tests early? Please don't tell me I should wait till I miss a period, I am painfully aware that that is the more sensible option, but if you can do that, you obviously have more self control than i do!!

www.peeonastick.com/hptfaq.html this site is good for working out how soon you can test

if you want to test early then buy cheap hpts from ebay

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 05/11/2009 11:41

I am 7 weeks pregnant and still cannot get a BFP with a first response.
I have 2 dc's and have never had a positive first response test yet they are not cheap either are they?

I buy the cheap pound shop or ebay ones they measure a smaller amount of HCG so give them a try....and I promise I won't say to wait

addie81 · 05/11/2009 12:10

Thanks ! That is really helpful. According to peeonastick.com I am indeed too early to be testing. Back to the waiting game! I am seriously tempted to ask First Response for my money back though! This is only my second month of trying. If it ends up taking us ages to get pregnant i think i am going to drive myself mad. its impossible to concentrate on work etc, all i can think about is whether or not i am pregnant!

Great site EldonAve - thanks! Best of luck addie

jumblequeen · 05/11/2009 13:28

...and on another note: the tests I've been using look suspiciously like the "internet cheapies" - the only ones that didn't give a BFP! I think I may be looking to upgrade

GhoulsAreLoud · 05/11/2009 13:31

I second getting the ebay strips, doesnt' matter if you are POAS mad then.

I got a + at 10dpo (got a very faint line at 9 dpo which I assumed was an evaporation line so dismissed it).

Hi everyone!

I am new to this site, its helped me also relise that im probably my pregnancy test to early!! they are so expensive so far i have done 4 and all are neg i was shocked no line using first response i got so excited then a big let down .

I have one son that we waited 4yrs to finally have lots of painful times waiting for him to come, but finally on the month i was due to start (iui) i found out luckily through 1 test we was having a baby before i knew i was pregnant with him i was feeling faint, hot, and sick but i never knew it was for a great cause!!
we havent been trying long but im so sure that i am i feel so bloated that i feel i look 4 months gone i know its sounds funny as its not the baby thats making me feel and look big as the baby would be so small, i keep getting pulling and cramp pains like period pains but dont normally have the cramps go on like this for weeks i have been having low back ach too havent had any sickness yet, i am sure im late now but its a pain cause im not as regular as some women.

Im so hoping its not in my head, i was 5 weeks gone with my son so think i should wait another 3 days to try again, if nothing i will try again in 3 days and go to the doctors just dont want to waste there time if im not,
Its doing my head in now!!

I wish everyone luck on getting a positive!! Does anyone else feel bloated my jeans feel much tighter??
Thank you

I am only 7 days post ovulation so definitely too early too test i think. I ordered a supply of cheaper tests over the internet today. I am not giving first response any more of my money on principle!
Good luck everyone! I will report back next week! x

addie - do let us know. I was weighing up tests in boots today and became so confused I didn't buy one!

jasmeeen · 05/11/2009 22:34

I was a POAS addict when trying to conceive DC3 (due in 9 weeks). Eventually DC3 was conceived via IVF so no uncertainty about conception date and the first response early test did show a faint but definite positive 4 days before official testing date (official testing date was 14 dpo). The internet cheapies (and I went through loads!) started showing faint positive about 2 days before official testing date. Clearblue digital was pretty slow to pick up the positive. And the Boots and supermarket own brands didn't show positive until about 15 dpo.

Gee, I think I must have spent a small fortune on pg tests!

I'm on the 2ww now too and I hate it, I'm so impatient, I know this is only my first cycle but I'm really hoping it will be the one, it does't help that oh asks 'have you got any symptoms? do you feel pregnant?' 20 times a day, I think he is more impatient than me.

only had one symptom, but don't know if I'm reading too much into it, yesterday I had a dizzy spell and that is not like me at all.

got everything crossed for myself and everybody else, best of luck too you all.

QueenMercury · 06/11/2009 07:40

oh dear i posted in the wrong thread, was supposed to be on august bus.

sorry! i'm new to this. how do i get rid of it?

jumblequeen · 06/11/2009 12:45

jasmeen - thanks for the reviews... Good job I didn't go for the boots ones in the end, then!

babycakes9 · 07/11/2009 18:48

Hi everyone,

Still feel very bloated like a big air balloon!!!

I have been feeling some cramping like i want to have my period, this morning i did have some light pink bleeding nothing like normal i normally just start heavey straight away, after wiping my self late i could not see no more and no blood has come on my pad all day (sorry)!!

All tests have said neg but now so confused as if i dont bleed like i normally do is this what they call spotting i have never found out so much as i do now is it worth me taking more tests or is it just likely i have just had a big period.

I would appreciate any help i cant see why i am so bloated??

Thanks guys

Hi Addie - very interested to hear that. I thought Superdrug's ones were pretty bad. They advertise 4 days before AF but inside packet (i.e. something you can't find out until you've bought them!) they say that you can only use them 14/15 (forget which! ) DPO - which for me was after AF was due! Anyway, First Response say nothing like that, anywhere, on any of their packaging (either outside or in) and I haven't been able to find it on their website either... If only they weren't still the most responsive, and if only I weren't so impatient, I'd be boycotting them altogether. Unfortunately, they are and I am!

tinkerbellesmuse · 12/11/2009 08:54

I have some clearblue which say you can test 4 days early but when you read the samll print it says only 57% of pregnant woman get a positive if testing 4 days early.

Also if it's true that you need to wait until 11 days post ov then it is even more of a con since almost all womans luteal phase is 14 days or less.

mummyyawns · 16/10/2014 13:00

I have just read a positive result 4 days before my period is due fingers crossed all will be ok!! this will be our 3rd baby! :)
