Repeat Molar Pregnancy -- Any Experiences?

Hi there.

I have posted this also on the Pregnancy thread, but I think the ladies there understandably have other worries.

I had a D&C last Friday and despite the low probability also this pregnancy unfortunately was a molar pregnancy (I had a partial molar pregnancy early last year). We lost the fetus again at 12/13 weeks.

This leaves us naturally devastated and feeling very exhausted and empty, after 3 years of TTC, MCs and chemotherapy following the first molar pregnancy.

However, looking ahead and trying to think positive, we have started talking about what to do after we are done with all the consequences of the current molar pregnancy (hopefully I do not need to undergo another chemo). Given the high probability of having another mole, the recommendation seems to be IVF, with preimplantation diagnostis to screen out the unviable ones that would cause the mole.

I know it is extremely rare, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a repeat molar pregnancy. How did you TTC after the second mole (naturally or IVF)? Any recommendations where to go, if you were doing IVF? What kind (ICSI with pre-implantation diagnosis)?

Any experiences would be very helpful, I feel a bit lonely with my case. Many thanks in advance. xx

Hi Joesgirl
I am sorry to hear your sad story. I too have just had a second molar pregnancy and am waiting to find the results of my first blood and urine sample. The molar pregnancy site has been exceptionally helpful and you will find many bloggers on their who have shared our experience. How are things progressing with you? I was particularly sad this time as we were TTC for 18 months and was awaiting a laparoscopy as had discovered I had blocked or at least partially blocked tubes and my husband has a low sperm count. Now they won't give me the lap and I face a bleak time ahead of trying to conceive with the possibility of when we do there being a 3rd molar. I wondered where you got your info from though about it being highly likely of another molar now? I was really worried about this but the consultant at Charing Cross has stated that it is 1 in 10. I am trying to build a case for at the very least a laparoscopy but if things are as bleak as you say then I want to try also for an assisted conception. I hope things have worked out for you? PS I do have a DS who is 3 now and was inbetween my 2 molars so there is hope! (Blocked tubes have happened after him as result of poss. infection)xxx

Hi

my friend had two molar pregnancies, but after 3 years eventually conceived her first child. Followed by a second child four years later, they weren't going to go through the stress of trying again, thus the big gap . Both were conceived naturally. I hope this helps x
