Was I stupid to put off TTC DC2? 34 first time round, 36 now, and suddenly cycles gone haywire!

I just read a really depressing statistic that half of all women over the age of 35 who try to get pregnant don't succeed. Is that accurate? I am going in to a tailspin about this! Our DD is 18 months now, conceived when I was 34, now I'm 36. I was ready to start trying for another when she was ten months, but didn't as I needed to get a job. So we waited a bit (have now got a job thank goodness) but have been trying for a couple of months now and nothing's happening and my cycles have suddenly gone totally haywire! Now I'm totally panicking that I should have just got on with it regardless!! Has anyone got any comforting words! Anything will do!

I think it's just down to the individual. My sil had her 1st at 32, 2nd at 35 then has just had her 3rd at 37, so try not to worry too much, you know you can do it as you have dd. Maybe see your gp about your cycles. Good luck

Thanks Vjay! There seems to be plenty of evidence out there that people over 35 do conceive! But I'm totally panicked myself and am feeling like it will never happen!

When it's gone so smoothly first time round you kind of think it will be a doddle the next time. I had my ds nearly 7 years ago, we decided to try for another last year, but had 2 miscarriages which totally threw me as I had no major problems with ds. Thankfully I am now 39+3 weeks pg, so any day now, and I thought it would never happen again.

Exactly! I got pregnant with DD first time round, knew at the time how incredibly fortunate we were but somewhat put out that it's not proving quite so easy this time! Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Congratulations on the pregnancy!
