RUBELLA I'm you're planning to get pregnant, please read/advise!

Currently WTT, but learned about the need to get rubella immunity checked and realised not so many women seem to consider this. Please read this link particularly the bit about the immunity test

I'd also be grateful to hear what others did/have been told, as this issue has caused a little confusion on other threads.

My doc has advised me to have the check done, but I keep putting it off. Never had a bloodtest in my entire life, but feel this could be the first of many. Just need to persuade myself to go to docs to get it done

I went to the GP about this as mum couldn't remember if I had the jab as a child. Asked GP who was very happy to check - was a simple blood test and got the results through within a few days. GP said it was especially important now as the lower take up of MMR means there are more cases around.

Didn't need the jab but was told that if I had, I would have had to wait for 3 months before ttc.

You're right about there not being much information about, it was only because of my mum mentioning that I went to the GP.

I have had the test (I'm afraid blood tests are a pretty usual occurence for me) and been recalled for a routine GP appointment, so I'm guessing that means I need the jab. Some sources have said one month wait before TTC, others three. I'm hoping one because we were going to start TTC in early October and that would put me back another month!

The test (called Rötel-Titter funnily enough) is standard in Germany where I was when pregnant. The results came in pretty quickly and I did not need the jab.

The doc said that the test is done on all pregnant women, so that they know if they are immune and can be more careful if there is a rubella outbreak. It is also recommended before starting TTC.

Clearly I am a wuss - So next week/or this week shall be making appointment for smeer and rubella test - joyful

When i was pregnant last time i had the immunity, do i need to get checked before ttc number 2?

aimeemummy - you should be fine. If you are immune, you are immune. Unless you had your first DC a LONG time ago!

Another one that is useful to have checked (esp if you are being checked for rubella anyway) is chicken pox if you don't know if you had it. If you aren't immune to that and get PG it can cause problems so it is worth knowing.

immunity does decrease over time as well - I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital after having dd3 before I had the MMR.
(ouch - hate needles!)

hana Thanks - that's what I thought. I'll post again when I have been back to the GP on the 12th. I'd still appreciate any input from those who have already been through it all.
