Swine flu - should we worry?

Been TTC DC3 for the past few months and now starting to get a it paranoid about what the future holds with all this Swine Flu, especially for pregnant women. All this talk of a pandemic which could mean that the majority of people in the UK will get it....am I being completely unreasonable to be concerned about being pregnant this upcoming winter.....ut then again, I am 37 I can't really afford to be waiting around. Can soneone talk some sense into me please!?!

Hiya, I totally sympathise as have been having exactly the same thoughts! I too can't afford to wait around but in the back of mind was thinking the 'what ifs' about being pregnant or having a new baby with all this going on. Although its only natural to be concerned, I do think in reality the risk is probably only small (I'm sure plenty of pregnant women get normal flu and come out of it all OK) If only the bloody media would give it a rest and not scare the living daylights out of us all we'd be fine!

You'll probably have had it by September, so I'd just get on with it if I were you. Chances are you won't be pregnant at that point but may be by christmas and then you have some immunity. Of course there is the issue of immunisation when pregnant but quite honestly life goes on. You could be hit by a bus tomorrow etc.

Take sensible hygiene precautions and stop worrying (you won't get pregnant if you are all stressy as I'm sure you know).

It is a bit worrying, but pregnancy carries all kinds of health risks so swine flu can just be added to the long list. In late thirties, you can't afford to be too picky. I'm in the same boat and I'm going to keep on TTC.

I'm with the other posters on this as well. I've just started TTC DC2 and I veer between being quite blase and then worried.

But, ultimately, what can you do? There'll always be something, every year, to worry about, so I'm just gonna crack on with it.

I spent all my first pregnancy worried for various reasons and I'm not putting myself through that again, so swine flu is going to the back of my mind and staying there!
