Egg donation

Anyone know what the upper age limit is for egg donation ?

Would it be different if it was coming direct from a friend ?

I'd love to donate eggs but I've only just finished my family and I'm 35 and have been told I'm too old already!

WMMC is right. 35 is the limit. and you need 6m (at least) of counselling 1st so you need to be 34 at most before you register etc.

Well, I am donating and I got the impression that if it's a known donor the rules do not apply.
I had 1 hour of councelling. We are just waiting for me to stop bf before going ahead.

Well, I'm a known donor so I can imagine that would change things alot. Or perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick re the age think. But I am 34 in Oct and we weren't put under any pressure to crack on [pardon pun] as it were.

I guess the counselling is less complex too, as the child will be known to my family. Therefore there are fewer 'what if' scenarios to work through. In view of the resulting off springs right to know the donor details.

Ethics has passed my donation so we are all delighted. Hurrah!

The clinic is in Manchester, but I think the rules will apply no mater where you are.

There's no need for six months of counselling - I think it's usually just one session though couples can have more if they want. It's implications counselling, ie talks through what it would mean if, for instance, the egg donor wasn't successful but the recipient was.

A delay can be caused by the tests though as there needs to be two HIV tests, 3 months apart.

For the age limit, check out the HFEA website. It says the age limit is 35 unless a clinic is prepared to accept someone older due to exceptional circumstances, which I would assume would include a known donor. If you want to help a friend I'd say discuss it with the clinic. The issue with increasing the age limit is that the success rates declines the older the donor is.
