Has anyone had ovarien drilling ??

HI, I already have a 4.5 year old daughter and have now used up all the furtility drugs I can have in a life time. My only option now is ovarien drilling or IVF.
We can't afford IVF, so it looks as if it's ovarien drilling or nothing.
I am a bit worried about it, I've never had an opperation before.

If this is being done for PCOS I would consider diathermy first. IVF should not be tried unless absolutely all other treatment options have failed. This is because of the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation if the polycystic ovaries are stimulated.

The proper name for "drilling" is laparoscopic ovarian diathermy. The ovaries are not drilled in the usual sense; the cystic follicles on the ovaries are punctured using an electrical laser or needle.

Its not a cure-all by any means but it may provide a window of opportunity for conception to take place. If this is being done because of PCOS the cystic follicles associated with this will come back eventually.

I would certainly ensure that the surgeon performing the op has done a fair number of these already; ovarian diathermy is a steep learning curve. Ask lots of questions!.

I was a day case but you may need to stay in overnight.

Hi, I?ve just been searching the web for some info on ovarian diathermy and I came across your thread. I?m having this done in a few weeks and it?s nice to know I?m not alone. Mummyloveslucy I had another laparoscopy (lap and dye) done in February this year and the operation wasn?t very painful and the scars are very small. I?m just shocked that I?ve got to go through it again, when I visited my doctor this week I wasn?t expecting him to tell me this!

I'm not sure if I'll have it done. I already have a gorgeous daughter and I went through hell to have her. I'm not sure if I'm readdy for it again. Good luck to you though, I hope it works.

Anyone else having this done or had it done, would love to hear from you. I?ve got no idea how common this operation is.
My husband and I have been trying for over 2 years now, so I don't want to pin all my hopes on this op but I can?t help dreaming!

I think it is quite sucessfull. Do you have any children already? if not, I'd do what ever it takes. You'd only regret it if you didn't try. Good luck and think positive.

No children yet.... but I know it'll all be worth it, in the end. x
