Anyone had recurrent very early miscarriages (4-5 weeks)

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone else has had recurrent very early miscarriage/chemical pregnancy.

I have had three in the past year, all happening around the time my AF was due and all following a similar pattern: preg symptoms for a few days before AF due, faint + HPT, then light spotting which gets heavier over a couple of days followed by a heavy 'period' with clots (sorry TMI!).

I saw my GP this week and she is going to run blood tests, but seemed slightly disbelieving that I had conceived at all as they were all so early.

I already have a DD who is nearly 4.

I can't help but think that it must be something specific to keep happening at almost exactly the same time (ie when AF is due).

Any advice would be great!

I was just wondering if you suffered Pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure etc.) in your first pregnancy? Only ask because I did, then went on to have 4 early miscarriages and it was explained to us by specialist that as soon as my body recognised the signs of the placenta, the pregnancy was rejected to stop the same thing happening as the first time. I was told to take a child's dose of aspirin for 3 months before I conceived and throughout the pregnency. It worked and we now have 5 healthy children.

I always knew when I was pregnant and I had a very understanding gp, which helped a lot! Take heart that you can get pregnant, that is a real positive.

I had one at 5 weeks and one at nearly seven weeks. I have two healthy children (each time I conceived a month after miscarriage as well). Sometimes it's just bad luck. What I would suggest though is you look closely at anything in your environment that may be stopping embedding such as hay fever drugs, steriods, PCOS etc.

Sorry you are going through this - early miscarriages carry so little 'value' to the medical profession, yet to you each one is a lost baby

In just your shoes (only I'm still ttc#1). 2 early just like yours, and a blighted ovum that we knew was hopeless at 5 weeks but didn't MC until 11.

3 things to know.

1. MCs at this time are most likely to be due to genetic abnormalities, rather than an underlying problem. You were probably just unlucky. or at least, that's what my GP told me.

2. 10 years ago hpts weren't sensitive enough to detect pg before about 4 1/2 - 5 weeks. All the stats on how many MCs are "normal" were collated way before it was possible to get a bfp at 4 weeks. It's estimated that as many as 75% of all pg end at 4 weeks or earlier. so really do not stress that it must be something wrong!

3. around 1 in 100 couples will suffer 3 or more MCs, statistically speaking a third of them will just have been unlucky!

I didn't have pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy, but did suffer from moderate raised BP for the last month of it which required medication. My daughter was small for dates at birth (full term and only weighing 6lbs 2oz). The other thing which I wonder about is that when my placenta was examined by the pathologist, it showed signs of villitis which causes intra uterine growth retardation amongst other things. I wonder if, like you say positiveattitudeonly, my body is rejecting the placenta this time around. I took baby aspirin during my last cycle when I mc'd, but will keep on with it.

Yes me too.

It has been a nightmare because the gp didn;t believe they were pregnancies and it took months to get a referral. (which typically turned up after a 14 wk wait and after my bfp!)

I had 3 mcs at 5 wks+5days in Sept, Dec and April. They were all very faint bfps.

My diagnosis (as the gp is rubbish) is Luteal Phase Defect. I was ovulating 7 days before the end of my cycle so progesterone wasn't high enough o support pregnancy. I think that is why it was the same day each time -it was taking that length of time for implantation to fail and the progesterone to drop so low to cause the bleed.

I had homeopathic treatment in in just 1 cycle my ovulation day moved back by 7 days to right in the middle of my cycle and I got my stong bfp in 2nd cycle.

Now I'm just praying it stays there!

I have wondered if it could be progesterone related, although I don't think I have a LPD as I ovulate around day 14/15 and my cycle is usually around 26/27 days. Having said that, it would explain why I keep mc-ing at the same time.

Hello. I realise this is an old thread, but was wondering if anyone has any experiences about this type of miscarriage. In the last year we had 3 early miscarriages at almost exactly the same time in 5 weeks / 1 week after missed period (plus minus a day perhaps). Emotionally we are not great and we keep thinking there must be something wrong causing it. Wondering if anyone had similar experience and what they did about it.. Thank you!

Hi we had 2 early miscarriages in a row. In both development stopped around week 5 and the actual miscarriage started in week 7. One happened in July and the second one is happening right now, in December. We will do all tests now and see. Has anyone with similar experience got test results back? Any light at the end of the tunnel?

I've also had 3 CPs in the past 7 months. Exactly the same as you've described @messylittlemonkey. My GP seemed incredulous too. So frustrating. All my bloods have been done and my fsh is high (I'm 41) so I'm wondering if it's egg quality. Finally got a gynaecology referral because my GP didn't understand the results. It's not until the end of February though.

Hi there I’m happy to see a comment from this year rather than years ago.im suffering the same problem,iv had 1 miscarriage at 4+4 in October and now suffering another at 5+2 just started to bleed and cramp today I’m starting to think it may never happen I got 10 positives since last week all different brands and got darker as days went on until yesterday got a negative which doctor says is typical for a chemical pregnancy.sorry to hear you going through the same thing

I’ve had the same thing with all 4 of my pregnancies the latest one was in January. I’m emotionally drained and so tired of looking for something/anything to fix. All my test came back fine and the only thing I can find is slightly elevated prolactin levels. I still have regular periods and ovulation so I don’t think that’s the problem. Did anyone get any other possible answers?

Hello I am 31 years old and had a mc at 5 weeks in April and then again in June 😞 I had only been off the pill since February. I’ve now gone back on it as I couldn’t take another heartbreaking loss. Has anyone had any results back or anything that may give me hope that this may not happen when we decide to try again.

Yes I did. I’ve had 5 😔 been ttc for 7 years.
But I have done some research and I read about various supplements that can help such as bromaline (I think it is spelt it’s a tablet that you can get from Holland and barratt it’s pineapple core extract) that’s supposed to help with implantation, as does pomegranate juice and a tablet called inositol which you can get from anywhere is supposed to help too, I’ve just heard of these so am giving it a go. Also when I get my next bfp dr said to take baby aspirin each day until 12 weeks too.
Also some women need higher doses of folic acid too (3-5g per day)
Just research as much as you can and it should help maybe you need some more vitamins or something. It’s tough but hold on to your hope and never give up.

I will do research on vitamins etc the drs have said until I have 3 there isn’t a lot they can do but to try again is such a scary thing. A lot has happened it such a short space of time so I just want to be mentally prepared for another go.
