'Missing' Mirena removal - anyone had this?

My Mirena went walkabout soon after being put in after DS's birth.

Now ready to TTC No 2, and went to see nurse today to arrange to have it removed (had been told would have to be under GA, eeek).

She said she'd rather have a rummage around with the forceps before sending me for a GA.

I agree in principle but it sounds 'orrible. Anyone out there tried this? Success stories especially welcome!

Am having this done on Friday...eeeek!

I had both a nurse and GP try to retrieve mine without success. I took a couple of paracetamol beforehand and didn't feel much tbh, bled a bit afterwards that's it really. Now having GA...Mirena? Never again!

This is my 3rd Mirena and I would still have another one, but maybe not fitted six weeks after giving birth - have a feeling everything was still settling down IYSWIM and that's why it went walkabout.

Do they know where it is? I only ask because mine somehow migrated through the uterine wall and ended up in my pelvic cavity. This was discovered when I couldn't find the threads, and nor could he gp, it didn't show up on ultrasound and eventually (after having to wait for my next period to be sure I wasn't pg ) it showed up on an x-ray outside of my uterus.

Keyhole surgery under ga and they fished it out. They don't want me to have another fitted - actually, neither do I after all that palaver!

Yes, I had a scan last year and it's 5mm below the fundus (sp?) - as the nurse said y'day, 'how the heck did it get all the way up there?'.

But still in utero I believe and fervently hope...

Oh good, if the nurse knew where it was then it must be there! I guess I really was a freak then!!

Good luck for Friday, I'm sure it will be find. GA was ok when I had it, although as I was tired anyway (dd2 was 6 months then) I didn't really wake up for hours, just lay in a groggy half-sleeping state and I was sick in the car on the way home!

Success! I'm very happy to report that I have had Mirena removal.

Not sure how long I was down in theatre tbh, but I don't think it was very long. Pain free, bleeding yes, but expected, no vomiting, even had a fab lunch and the nurses? I've never met such a wonderful collective before

Now to let my body return to normal .

Tried to talk a very pg theatre nurse into not having an epidural and to embrace the pain. She was having none of it! Found out I am 6 years older than another theatre nurse, but I look 10 years younger. Plugged Mooncups and Mumsnet to the most fabulous ward nurse too!

Ha! plugged Mooncups!!!
