Ovulation question

Hope I can get an answer to this question here...

According to information I have gathered, if you have a 28 day cycle, you will ovulate at around day 14.
I have an average cycle of 33 days, so will it follow that I will ovulate around day 16 or 17?

Thanks in advance

There are loads of ways of tracking it - temperature, mucus, expensive ovulation kits, but as a general rule, I think if you count 14 days back from the end of the cycle that will be when you ovulated, so on a 33 day cycle, it would be around day (33-14) = 19.

Someone correct me if I'm talking rubbish!

The ovulation testing kits needn't be that expensive if you buy them over the net, rather than in a chemists - have a look here .

I'd do the temp test if I was you to assess when yours is - just to be sure. But it is also safe to say that it is a period of four days or so if you are trying to conceive. I had a cycle of 30 days and conceived ds2 on day 17 and ds1 on day 14. I know this as I was tracking it after miscarriages.

Another way to check is insert you fingers up and feel the cervix. It feels like the tip of your nose when not ovulating and becomes soft at ovualation so if you are not sure keep a record for a few months and find out.

Apparently vaaginal mucus has a stringy / stretchy "egg white" consistency (get a bit between thumb and forefinger, pull fingers apart - if it stretches out between your fingers it's fertil mucus) when you are fertile but is runnier at nonfertile times. The book I read claimed this was the most simple and reliable indicator of fertility. I got pregnant twice with only one episode of sex in about two months using this method.

Don't count on it!! I have a 31 day cycle and ovulated at around day 9!!! The only sure way to tell would be to use an ovulation predictor kit.

There is an 'ovulation calendar on the Femail website ... will find it for you ....
Marina recently said in a thread that her doctor told her that rather than try to work out your ovulation time ... have sex every other day for the entire cycle ...
According to my DH that is the best advice we have had so far

Dino - there are various sites that can give in depth info on mucus(!) Do a search on www.ovusoft.com which is all about using this method to chart fertility.
