Is it harder to concieve second time round??

Hi Everyone! Apologies if this has been done to death, but has anyone else found it much harder to get pregnant second time round?? I was pregnant within 2 months of stopping the pill almost 2 years ago, but I've not used any contraception since then (she's now one), haven't breast fed for months but nothing seems to be happening (despite lots of trying!) - what can be so different!!

Conceived first month after going off the pill last time, DS now 2 years old. Now been TTC for 7 months..not just an age thing, I'm not 30 yet! I think it's too early for me to go get checked out..

Thanks for that - it's reassuring to know I'm not alone? Do you really think 2 years can make such a difference? I'm 34 now, so it might be that - it just feels weird after having had it so easy before?

I'm 26 and ttc no2 (have been for about 18 months - 'lazy' ttc though!). it is now at the point where i'm wondering if there's something amiss...so OP know how you must be feeling (age alone isn't the only reason for having difficulties, it could be any number of reasons why it hasn't happened yet).

I fell pg v quickly with my first, so know how you feel when it doesn't happen quick the second time round. It is very frustrating. Fingers crossed for you and anyone else in the same boat.

DollyDiamond you are certainly not alone. I got pregnant first time i tried, have 3 year old dd and have been trying for nearly 2 years to no avail. I am 31 and we have no problems that docs can detect in reproductive areas. consultant thought more investigations outside reprod areas may come up with solution, but suggested ivf instead, which we have just started.
it is difficult to explain, but very common. obviously there are so many different reasons for secondary infertility in different people. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

hi i am 28 been ttc *2 for 5 yrs have had 4 miscarriages no know cause for either.
fell whilst on the pill with dd as had a tummy bug so know exactly how you are feeling. i think it is very common and very strange.

am hoping i will fall and keep the next one very soon otherwise will be giving up

ray81 sorry to hear about your fertility issues and those miscarriages. it must be awful for you. you are very young though to give up. I have never miscarried but i live with the constant fear of it. i know a few women who have had them, so i have seen the pain first hand.
there is drug treatment though, is there not? to prevent miscarriages? sorry if you already know about this or if i am over-simplifying it. some women develop anti-bodies to their partners sperm, others develop antibodies to their unborn babies. nature is hard and cruel no matter what. harder on some than others. Perhaps if you consider putting it all on hold until you find an answer? My dad works with a man who finally had a baby after his wife had about 5 miscarriages. it just happened. she was a lot older than you too.
I do hope you resolve this problem, at least find some answers, get a step or two closer. i hope you dont give up. Good luck

Thanks everyone - I think you're all lovely to share your experiences. I like the idea that I was lucky first time and that second time round we have to "work" at it! Fingers crossed for all of us - I know there's not much sympathy from anyone who is finding it hard first time (never mind second time round), but it's always hard to be patient for something so special.

Yes, first time was a lovely gift, a carrot if you will! But why should we have everything so easily in life? we need to work for what we want, like you said, for something so special.

Took 18 months to conceive DD and then 2 for DS (at age 38).
I think that can be as common as No 1 being easy and No 2 taking ages. Not sure that there is any rhyme or reason to the TTC business.

Hi, I took 9 months to conceive dd, a little longer than most of my friends but still perfectly reasonable timeframe. have been trying for nr two for 20 months now, including 3 failed iuis and 1 cancelled ivf cycle. Unexplained infertility as well. can't work out if I was incredibly lucky then or if I'm incredibly unlucky now.

Just read article about celebs suffering from infertility: Sarah Jessica Parker, Celine Dion and Penny Lancaster. I think because they are famous and not real people in my eyes, that it gives me some comfort that it happens to you no matter who you are. i feel sorry for them too though. hope everyone on here is ok?
