Cheaper OPKs - are they as good?

For the last 3 cycles, I'm only getting a pale pink line for 2 days (second day darker than first, but not as dark as control), which the instructions says to take as a negative. But, I'm getting EWCM and ovulatory pains and my period 12-14 days later.
I just wondered if the cheapy OPKs are as good as the more expensive ones. Has anyone tried both and found a difference?
Not TTC yet, thought I'd track for a few months beforehand.
Thanks

Are you getting them from ebay, as you can get ones that are more sensitive. Some need ones more sensitive, some need them less sensitive.

likessleep · 29/05/2009 17:11

i have seen ones from zoombaby.
i'm taking the faint pink as a positive though, as i am getting the other ovulatory signs at the same time. maybe i'm wrong to do that.
thanks for posting. i will look up more sensitive ones ...

I get these ones You can choose either preg tests or ov tests or a mix. But she also does the different sensirtive tests, read the listing it explains about it. She is very quick at posting as well.

They work really well too, used them for my last 2 children and now next one as well.

I've used the cheapie eBay sticks and they have worked a treat for me (three pgs in 8ths - sadly, the first two ended in MMCs). Some sticks do seem to be more sensitive than others - to find out what the sensitivity is, look at the last two digits of the lot number on the wrapper; the lower the number, the higher the sensitivity. Also, some brands can be read as positive if only the edge of the test line is as dark as the control line, whereas other brands require that the test line must be a wide as the control line.

The pregnancy tests are dire though, in that you think you are seeing things until well over 7 weeks pregnant. So even though they are early pregnancy tests, the first line you will see if using very early will be vvvvv very faint!

NancyPreg · 30/05/2009 07:43

Not that faint in my case, although my pg sticks were the very sensitive ones (10 miu/ml). I could see a very visible line before af was due - it all depends on the type of test.

Divvy · 30/05/2009 07:46

Now see, I have never got a dark line with the 10 miu/ml ones till around week 7! But you can see them getting darker over the days though, which is nice to watch and as they are so cheap it dont cost alot of money.

NancyPreg · 30/05/2009 08:49

Well I guess you could say that their effectiveness/clarity is proportional to their price! But there is something indulgent about using so many tests (OPK and pg) when they cost so little!

Divvy · 30/05/2009 11:03

Very! I love to stick them on a piece of paper in there used order. Wish they were slightly wider though, as it makes writing on them quite hard!

NancyPreg · 30/05/2009 12:37

, yes I've also lined mine up too, just to see how the strength of the line ebbs and flows (OPKs that is). It is such fun!!!
