Natural conception following successful IVF pregnancy?

Has anyone achieved a natural pregnancy following a successful IVF pregnancy?

I was diagnosed with unexplained fertility and had a successful FET resulting in the birth of my DH who is currently 15 months. I've had a few people say to me that they've heard of people finding it easier to conceive naturally following an assisted pregnancy and I was wondering if anyone here had also heard/experienced that.

I'm 39 this year, so we are currently trying to decide if we should give ourselves a chance to conceive naturally this time or go for IVF straight away. There's a 6 month waiting list, but I'm still bf DS and would have to wean him if we were to do IVF again.

My cycles are back on track despite bf (he's just feeding morning and night now), but I'd rather not wean him if there's a chance I could get pregnant naturally.

We have an appointment this Friday with the IVF clinic for the paperwork/preliminary bloods etc, but won't be making any first decisions on start dates just yet.

Well - not exactly relevant but we had DS1 after two rounds of unsuccessful IVF. Not quite sure why. We think the treatment DW received in some way kick started her ovaries/uterus into a regular cycle. We are both biochemists and have no other scientific explanation than that.

DW had also started taking Ginkgo Biloba which is know to increase blood flow (I heard woemen who are actaully pregnant should not take it though).

We had given up really after the second cycle and had stopped being so routine and regulated about sex and it just happened. Indeed, it was a pure lucky chance DW conceived that month as she had planned to fly to Japan that day and her flight was cancelled so we could be together a bit longer.

EvenBetaDad- that's the kind of thing I'd heard some people say. It's strange, but for some reason I feel like I might be able to conceive naturally this time, but that could just be over confidence after having DS.

I had also heard that women who had already carried a baby are in some way 'better able' to conceive next time. Again not a scientific observation and possibly an old wives tale but in in some way I suspect the body is 'conditioned' by the first pregnancy.

Well, I wish you and DH/DP the very best of luck and fingers crossed it does happen naturally for you.

We had DS2 a few years after DS1 - again completely naturally. In a way I suppose we felt DS1 was a totally unexpected blessing and if no more children came along then we did not want the stress and hassle of IVF again. That was our personal choice though and you may well feel very different.

Thanks! I really felt we wouldn't try for any more after getting pregnant with DS, but now we would really like him to have a sibling. Like you say we're lucky to have DS, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I know 2 people this has happened to, both dizzingly quickly after the birth of the first. Make sure you're ready!
