Hi Ladies,

I am a fairly new member so forgive me for not knowing abbreviations!

I wonder if someone can shed some light on this or if it has happened to them also. I miscarried on 10th April, had my first AF on 6th May, had to go to docs as it was a bit offensive (sorry tmi!), turns out I had an infection and was given strong antibiotic. Started CBFM and on day 10 got my peak so bd'd and also following day bd'd. On day 14 had to go to docs as I had been up most of nite needing to wee, suffice to say I have a urine infection. Doc gave me amoxicilin as she knows we are ttc. I am now 5 days into antibiotic and I am still needing to pee! My question is has anyone had this as an early pregnancy symptom or am I just grabbing at straws? I am so fed up at the moment, feel like my body is not catching up with my head! I havent had implantation yet so it's prob not going to happen anyway....oh well feel better for writing it all down!

xx

I did have it as an early pregnancy symtom but it did start from 12dpo and have it this month too so am quietly hopeful although only 9DPO (was last pregnant a month ago following MMC so wondering if that pushes your symptoms to earlier- would make sense as your uterus may still be swollen following your MC so be pressing more on the bladder). I also this month had a urine infection which seemed to clear itself but still peeing a bit more than "normal". If there is still pain when you wee get back to the docs. Fertility friend does this evil thing where if you subsribe it does this "early pregnancy signs" indiactor and you get a score based on your early symptoms so you could look at adding the data to that - mine is currently 66 out of 100 for mine. Nargh!

Anyhow good luck! Keep us posted.

Hopefullythistime · 24/05/2009 06:55

Thank you Thandeka!

I would only have been 4dpo when I got the urine infection so it probably is just that. Unfortunately I don't think the amoxicillin is working as I have been up since three this morning with constant urge to pee but nothing coming out, although i don't have any pain? Have been drinking water for the past 4 hours so hoping it may flush itself through without me going back to docs. Am so fed up....

Hope it's good news for you, when are you due to test?

OP posts:
Thandeka · 24/05/2009 10:20

Due to test Wednesday but have been testing since Yday. Ambiguous results (mainly -ve but one v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v.faint positive in the time frame and one faint but obvious positive in a test I fished out of the bin 24hours later!) so who knows!? Trying to hold off testing again til Wednesday when I will crack open the CB digital I have for special occasions!

Interestingly my UTI started at 4DPO too and I believe it is common in early pregnancy... (Probably triggered by all the shagging!)

I really hope it is more uptheduff symptom than UTI. Oh and sometimes your brain can do silly things with wee where you think you need to go (but you don't really) but the anxiety around that makes you need to go more but there is no wee there (I was living on the loo during the pregnancy that ended in MMC because I was just scared about being somewhere I couldn't use the loo so I constantly had to empty my bladder even though often it was empty!). I think you are doing the best thing- mainlining water and if you then try and hold on as long as possible before you go (not so as to do yourself an injury but enough to make your brain re-recognise what "needing the loo" really feels like.) it may help.

Fingers firmly crossed for us both anyhow!

Hopefullythistime · 25/05/2009 08:18

That sounds like positive news to me! I'm excited for you, had to laugh about the shagging and the CB digital! I'm exactly the same, only used on special ocassions (i.e 12dpo haha). We did use pre seed for the first time this month but I havent heard of any reports of UTI through using it, infact I've heard it actually helps prevent UTI?!

Have you had any signs of implantation at all? I'm going to test on wednesday also, I always do when I'm 11/12 dpo.

I am so impatient, I really can't wait for anything, trying not to think about the fact I would have been 12 weeks today and telling everyone my news......

Fingers crossed all the way!!

OP posts:
Thandeka · 25/05/2009 09:17

Well 11DPO and I swear there is a faint faint faint faint faint faint faint purple line. One of those evil ones that just to glance at is defo negative but if you really squint in bright bright light while upside down and holding your breath there is a line (probably caused by lack of oxygen to the brain!). But now am worried is just residual HCG from the miscarriage so need to hope the line gets stronger.

No signs of implantation at all (the month I got pregnant on 3DPO I had a spot of blood and ewcm which was odd and then from 7DPO was very nauseous) and it sounds silly with hindsight but that month I just knew- things were different.

This month lots of weeing, minor nausea (but more usual progesterone induced post ov that I get most months). I am more "aware" of my boobs more but they aren't as tender as they were last time. Oh and one weird lack of symptom which is interesting me. Way TMI but post ov always I had period pain post orgasm when in luteal phase and in run up to period usually get cramps to say AF is on her way. Even month I got pregnant last time I had smame thing (and period cramps that continued throughout). This time no cramps really at all. So maybe AF isn't on its way. Fingers crossed.

Am pretty sure I did ovulate 11days ago so maybe the MMC has shifted my signs a bit. My luteal phase is usually 12 days so am vaguely hoping that will shift to longer too but then again that would mean period won't come tommorrow and I am stuck in the hellhole limbo for a few more days! Nargh!

Blimey that was a long jumbled post! Sorry. How are you feeling? Hope the waterworks are a bit better?

Heres to a happy few days of pissing on sticks!

x

Hi Hopefully

Just wanted to respond about your post re pre-seed - we used it for the first time this month too, and my DH got a terrible UTI, that culminated in a fever spike and going to the docs for anitbiotics.. (despite me telling him it was swine flu ). Consequently, he has said no more pre-seed (major shame for me!) as although it could be a coincidence, he doesn't want to run the risk of it happening again, poor bunny. I wondered if the natural sugars would have had any effect, but then read stuff saying that it was supposed to stop infection, so am a bit confused. Anyhoo, good luck for your testing!

Hopefullythistime · 25/05/2009 15:43

Thanks for the info worrisomeheart, that's a shame about the pre seed, I'm wondering whether it has contributed to my UTI aswell and whether if we are not sucessful this month whether we should use it again next month.

I'm feeling bit better thanks Thandeka, went to bed around 12.30ish and woke up at 7am. Got back into bed around 11ish and fell asleep for an hour, feel knackered. I had implantation on 4dpo in April when I fell pregnant, that's what's making me think we havent done it this month. However I usually get a banging headache exactly one week before AF and that hasnt happened....All this symptom spotting is doing my head in!

Did you have a D&C for your MMC? I had one eight years ago when I had MMC and then fell pregnant with my son the following month!

Looking forward to Wednesday when I will sart peeing on stick!

OP posts:
Thandeka · 25/05/2009 16:41

No D&C for me I guess in that way I was "lucky". Emby stopped growing at 7 weeks (must have died after a scan when I saw the heartbeat and everything )
I started bleeding at 10 weeks 1 day (the day after we got back from honeymoon ) went to A&E had a scan was sent home to miscarry naturally- was all over by the end of the day then just like a period for next 12 days.

So glad you are feeling better- knackeredness is defo a good sign and anyhow for the first 3 months post MC aren't we both supposed to be uber uber fertile so we HAVE to get lines on our wee sticks.

Symptom spotting is evil- (as is the early pregnancy signs indicator is now on 82 points (out of 100) but thats only because I am putting every possible "symptom" in!)

Oh and worrisomeheart I do find some lubes in general do trigger UTI's. One way round it to still get some of the benefits from it if you don't have much EWCM is to squirt it in after DH is finished? May want to get it to body temp first! Will still help sperm survive but you won't get the lubricating benefits IYSWIM? (but erm Salvia kills sperm so dont use that as alternative lube!)

Hopefullythistime · 26/05/2009 13:26

Life is sh**t sometimes Thandeka isnt it, especially for it to happen when you've just got wed....how are you feeling emotionally? I think going full steam ahead and ttc again is the only thing that is getting me through to be honest. I think if my dh knew how determined I was it would frighten him. At least he just has to do the deed which he definetly doesnt mind but there's me reading everything I can find on internet, buying fertility monitors, recording BBT (which I havent done yet but will do from cd1, just bought taking charge of your fertility) symptom spotting constantly, the 2ww.....I'm surprised I hold down a job to be honest, in fact my job is actually an inconvenience in my life at the moment haha.

Gave in and tested today on fr...bfn...not due till Sunday so bit early I hope....

How you getting on? Lines got darker yet?
x

OP posts:
Thandeka · 26/05/2009 14:35

Tiny little whisper as of this morning it's obviously positive. Gulp! So in answer to your question "how am I feeling emotionally?" Answer is all over the show! Am terrified now!

If you aint due til Sat, then perhaps today was a teensy bit early but totally get why you tested but a BFN isn't a BFN til AF arrives. But fingers are firmly crossed for you for Sunday and Auntie Flo deciding to disown you and not come round for Sunday lunch like planned.

Full steam ahead is defo the only way to go- I'm a nightmare as I have a degree with a large part of reproductive physiology in, have charted for years, used persona etc. So when TTC madness started I had not much more to do in the knowledge gathering stakes so I went bonkers for accupuncture, massage, reflexology etc etc. I defo think they helped. (But that is a whole other expensive level to TTC madness- just reading TCOYF is probably the best thing you can do

Hopefullythistime · 26/05/2009 17:51

OMG!!!!! I'm so happy for you, wishing you loads and loads of sticky stuff!! Can understand how you must be feeling...make sure and take it easy. Have you been offered an early preg scan because of MMC? Isnt it the best feeling seeing that positive sign!!! I feel really positive now even if I'm not sucessful this month i know it will happen eventually (believe me I will be back to my impatient self within the hour methinks!!)

Congratulations!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Thandeka · 27/05/2009 08:18

Thankyou! Am only 13DPO today and period officially a day late and temp still raised. (16DPO of raised temps is another way of confirming pregnancy- but heck wee-ing on a stick is more fun). The tests are getting stronger so it can't be residual HCG from the MMC. I will get an early scan but will be undecided about when to have it. I had an early scan at 6.3 last time - all fine- heartbeat and was told I "wouldn't miscarry" and lo and behold i did. So I don't want one that early- I miscarried at 10 weeks but emby stopped at "6" according to the hospital but I think it must have been 7 weeks due to good scan and the emby had grown a little more. So anyhow I'm thinking if I could hold on til 9 weeks then most of the MC risk has gone so it would be great to do it then but probably 8 weeks is all I can hold out until. But then that's if I get to 8 weeks (4 weeks from tommorrow!).

Its weird I HATE people telling me post MC that "at least you know you can get pregnant now" but inside secretly the knowledge that you can get pregnant is half the battle- next step carrying it to term.......

So how you feeling now? Sunday must feel like forever away - I know for me it is going to be here before I know it but that's because I'm on holiday and don't want to go back to work on monday!

Hopefullythistime · 27/05/2009 10:00

Morning

Yes I know what you mean with the early scan, when I had my MMC I was scanned at six and eight weeks then found out at my 12 wk scan that emby had stopped growing at 10wks. If I had my way I would be scanned once a week! When I fell pregnant with my ds straight after the MMC I was convinced I was going to miscarry with him aswell as I had exactly the same symptoms and slight bleeding. I even went into my 12wk scan almost accepting that I had miscarried but now I have my lovely (hyperactive) ds!

Yes, in my case the knowledge that I can actually fall pregnant was half the battle as my son is from previous relationship. My husband and I have been trying since September last year and because I had fallen pregnant so quickly before I was convinced that it just wasnt going to happen, along with my imptientness!!

How is your dh? I bet he must be over the moon!

Unfortunatley I can feel signs of AF coming along this morning.

Question for you - what temp were you averaging pre ov and post ov?

x

OP posts:
Thandeka · 27/05/2009 10:14

Hehe about being scanned every week- heck lets go the whole hog and just walk round with the scanner up our fanjo constantly! The scanners are on wheels sure we could pop them in a suitcase- and if you wore trousers or a long skirt no body would know!

I was trying since Sept last year too (for my 1st)- getting to 6months with no luck is a bit galling but I got pg on the 6th month so I guess I also got PG on the "7month". The impatientness is a killer.

Interestingly my temps are much higher when pregnant. My temps average 36.3 pre ov and 36.7 post ov. Both pregnant cycles I have charted 36.9 or even 37.0 (not average is more blippy ones) but I think I may use that as a clue. Also my temp would drop at 11 DPO at latest if i was going to get AF- to about 36.5 so I would know. But then I am a terrible one for trying to "affect" my temps- for example I sometimes sleep with my mouth open but I make a consious effort not to when temping- also often my arms and legs will be out of the covers but I often wake up at about 5am and deliberately put arms and legs back under covers to bake and keep my temp high! Haven't gone so far as to get a hot water bottle but thought about it! Haha. Is silly since it makes no diff to the outcome but having higher temps makes me feel better.

Boo for signs of AF- fingers crossed it stays away.

Thandeka · 27/05/2009 10:16

Ooops and DH is very very quiet and non-commital. He finally agreed it was a line last night and thats all he said. Think the MMC shocked him really badly so he doesn't want to get excited for him but also for me if that makes sense. I can tell he also doesn't want me to go to glastonbury! We'll see.

Hopefullythistime · 27/05/2009 10:42

haha! I work in a hospital so was thinking of just popping into ultrasound on my lunchbreak and scanning myself (they close between 1-2pm, ideal time).

My temp has been averaging 36.4-36.5 past couple of days so not high really.

Dh propabaly wants to wrap you up in cotton wool which is understandable. Just try not to exert yourself too much...tell you what just stay in bed ramrod straight for the next 12wks and you will be fine!

OP posts:
Thandeka · 27/05/2009 12:35

Haha PCT chief of staff (or whatever) walks in on Hopefullythistime "scanning" herself with TV probe and assumes she is a sexual deviant.

I guess your temps are more usual for you- what were your pre-ov temps? I don't think higher than normal temps are a sign of pregnancy (but temps remaining high is) but its just something I noticed about me. So don't get disheartened by your temps.

Have you ever tried accupuncture? I swear by it and get it really cheap at a training clinic so its only £10 a session.

Hopefullythistime · 27/05/2009 13:12

Haha, that made me laugh! I've only started taking temps in the last couple of days (starting properly on cd1) so don't know what I was pre-ov.

Forgive me for being niave but what does acupuncture entail and how does it benefit you?

OP posts:
Thandeka · 27/05/2009 13:49

Use fertilityfriend www.fertilityfriend.com to store your temps as it works out when you ovulated for you. Is great! (although bewarned sometimes it tells you you ovulated so you may stop "trying" and then when you put more data in it decides you ovulated later which can be annoying- depends how erratic your temps are.
You can also store your CBFM data on fertility friend so it uses all your signs together.

Accupuncture involves needles being gently inserted under the skin on particular points following a consultation. It doesn't really hurt and you feel a dull throb when the needles are in. Accupuncture is supposed to help boost fertility (and studies have found it especially beneficial in IVF). In a way I and a bit about complementary therapies but then I enjoyed it and felt it "working" (always came out feeling amazing!). I was pregnant for the first time after 14 sessions and since it took my mum 3 years to concieve me- I like to think accupuncture helped. Had a session last week and they can do a point on the top of your head which is supposed to help you maintain a pregnancy (all I am saying on that one is - I was having that point done until 7weeks then I went on holiday for three weeks and lo and behold my pregnancy failed when I stopped accu) so my plan this time is to have that point done for the next 12 weeks at least (when pregnant they hardly do any points so they don't move the "energy" too much).

Oh I also did reflexology which is pushing points on the feet (no needles) and I have only had it twice once last time I got pregnant and once this time. So again not a statistically significant study but the woman who did mine did say that three of her other clients had just got pregnant too- so maybe she has special hands! If you are london based I can pass on her number on, and where I go for cheap accu.

Hopefullythistime · 27/05/2009 14:07

Have registered with fertility friend just got to get my head round it all!

Have been doing a bit of research and have found acupuncture for £40 per session local and my local beauty salon does refexology for £38 per session. Both costly but if it increases my chances will try anything!!

I'm based in North London so if they are near would love the info. Thanks

OP posts:
Thandeka · 27/05/2009 14:24

I'm North London too!

The accupunture is London College of Traditional accupuncture in Finchley (ooh If you go I get a fiver off my next treatment for referring you- though you would need my real name)

And will have to email you the reflexologist contact details as she may not want me posting them on here.
