BBT thermometer recommendations please

Can anyone recommend a BBT thermometer that has a light and memory function?

That's it really.

I do already have one but it has no light so it's a pain to read when it's still dark and the memory function is annoying - when you turn it on again, the previous temp flashes up once for two seconds and then disappears forever so if you blink you miss it!

I leave my mobile next to mine and check it with that when its dark! Sorry don't know any with lights though

Not exactly what you require, but.....

can I recommend the Boots digital fertility monitor? It has an alarm that wakes you up, and it records the temp for you so you don't have to move, turn on a light, or write anything down. Fantastic if you plan on falling asleep again after. Stores data for up to four months and makes a little temperature graph on screen.

I spent forever searching such a thing and couldn't find one.

In the end i gave up and had a cheap one from Babymad with a memory function and have a mini torch by the bed. But i appear to have lost that one so I use my cheapie bogstandard illness one.

On my hunts I did find that there is supposed to be an uber thermometer coming out called Duofertility which is the mother of all fertility thermometers.

I think first response do a temping computery thing too.

Thank you ladies.

I've been searching too and haven't been able to find what I'm looking for.

The duofertility thing looks amazing but I don't think my DH will let me spend that much money (even with 20% off) - but thanks so much for looking it all out for me.

Maybe I'll go look at the Boots fertility monitor and see what I think.

Thanks again!

yeah it is stupidly expensive!

I do favour fertility friend online though for cycle tracking so then any old thermometer will do.

I really wanted one which didn't beep but flashed or buzzed when temp ready so I didnt wake DH but they just don't make em like that! Bah!

PistachioLemon · 23/05/2009 22:32

Maybe we should make one. I bet it would sell like hot-cakes!

Oooh a mumsnet thermometer- genius lets do it!

PistachioLemon · 24/05/2009 10:59

I can't believe I'm lusting over a £495 fertility monitor. I mentioned it to DH last night (just in passing of course) and he just snorted!

MN BBT thermometer here I come. So what do we want on it? Two decimal points, light and memory, buzzing when placed correctly and at the end? It really can't be that hard...ok, I'm going to have a go at making one in a sort of Heath Robinson manner.

OP posts:
Thandeka · 24/05/2009 11:20

Definitely- two decimal points, light and memory, buzzing when placed correctly and at the end? (possibly light flashing at end?). Also it shouldn't buzz/light up after a set time but after the temp stabilises as I often find I read the temp when it beeps but leave it in my mouth and find my proper stable temp to be up to 0.3 degrees higher!

Oh BTW my DH is a patent lawyer so he may be able to patent it for us! I did ask him to look for recent inventions for me but he was useless.

It may be a bit high tech but we could also do with one that transmits the data (wirelessly or by usb in thermometer?) to our fertility friend chart so we can see whats going on. (I guess similar to what Duofertility is aiming for but ours will be cheaper!)

I'm a total FAM addict- I have persona, CBFM, Fertility friend, Ov microscope, endless charts, books, thermometers. So I think Duofertility is a step too far (especially is it is designed for conception which is great but maybe has much more limited use- rather than if you can use it for conception and contraception)

PistachioLemon · 24/05/2009 16:24

Okay, I shall see what I can do!

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 24/05/2009 16:25

Oh and I quite agree, it's a shame that you can't use it for both conception and contraception - it would be money well spent then if you could give up condoms (which I hate) or the pill (which I don't get on with very well).

OP posts:
Thandeka · 24/05/2009 17:10

I did use charting for contraception sucessfully for three years (well I didn't accidently get pregnant in that time!) as I don't do hormonal contraception and condoms all the time is annoying- FAM (fertility awareness method) is dead easy once you get the hang of it!)

Pre ovulation is "relatively infertile period" ie. you need to use a condom/abstain for week-10days before ov (but you need to have a fair idea of when its coming.

Post ovulation is "absolute infertile period" you have to wait until 3 days post ov but then you can shag like bunnies up to and during your next period (so long as your cycle is long enough).

PistachioLemon · 28/05/2009 10:22

Hey Thandeka - I just saw that congratulations are in order... that's wonderful news so pleased for you. So now I have nine months or so to develop my uber thermometer to our very exacting specifications without the same cost as the duo contraption.
