Claire I've just seen your thread about the consultant, and just wanted to say it really doesn't sound like you are getting what you paid for. Definitely chase again on Monday, and if not, get in touch with your insurer and see if you can change to a more responsive consultant. The whole point of going private is to get quicker results ffs, so it's really bad that they're not doing what they should be doing.

Thanks PL - in fact I have literally just hung up on him now. He called me and we talked through the results of the scan.

Apparently it is not unusual for women in the mid to late thirties to get this. Polyps, fibroids, PCOS, cervical abnormalities have all been ruled out, it is unlikely to pre-cancerous changes to my womb as as the lining of my womb was normal for where I was in my cycle, cancer would cause a thickening apparently.

So - that leaves hormonal. Which I can't be treated for as I'm ttc (so I guess normal treatment would be the pill?). I am to leave it for 3 months, if it doesn't clear up on its own I'll go back and he will probably do a hysteroscopy to see if there are polyps that weren't spotted on the scan.

He also talked through the bicornate uterus thing with me. It's a less severe version, so relieved I feel teary about that! Basically its leave it and see as with the bleeding. Recurrent m/c's would mean they would probably repair it, but so far only one m/c doesn't indicate it causes problems.

Massive phew!!! I'm gonna have a huge glass of wine and we can start ttc again next cycle

With regard to the docs - I would definitely mention it, you may be lucky and have a GP that will start you off on the tests for you and DP early. Normally they say give it a year if you're under 35 and 6 months if you're over (purely because you need to get on the waiting lists a bit quicker 35+) and I see from your profile you're 33. Good luck anyway. And you never know, some post exam celebrating in teh next week or so and this maybe your lucky cycle

Not implantation - just another funny cycle. Light bleeding started today so tomorrow likely to be CD1 - which makes this the shortest cycle yet. However, when I had my scan on Day 12 the doc thought I'd already ovulated so guess not a huge problem.

Think we'll focus on New House, New Baby - thanks for the suggestion Mollie!

PL, think Claire's right, there can't be any harm in mentioning it. Worst that can happen is they tell you to come back in 6 months, in which case you've lost nothing. Inflate the length of time you've been trying as much as you can!

Unfortunately we can't rent out the house - we'd lose £400 a month in rent vs mortgage. Luckily the company's supporting my rent until December, and we're renting the house that we're going to buy (it's my stepmum) so that makes it easier, but I just want it done and dusted. We've got so much to so on the new place to make it nice, and can't start until we own it!

Claire, big relief that it's nothing serious. All sounds v positive - and also about the bicornial uterus being less bad than you thought. So glad you're back in the TTC game! You deserve that wine :D

Hey guys, well the news from the doctor is that DH can have a sperm test because there is a known problem there, but that I can't have any tests until we've been trying for 12 months because I'm under 35 (just). Hey ho. It's sort of what I expected, but still I wish they wouldn't be quite so laissez faire about it all.

DH was asked the obligatory 'do you have sex' question too!

Claire, glad the consultant got back to you in the end. I hope he apologised for the wait. And I'm especially glad to hear that your bicornate uterus is less pronounced than some are and that you shouldn't need surgery. No wonder you were a bit teary, I would be blubbing all over the place with news like that! [hug]

Shay, so, did AF arrive? Sorry if it did. Still not long now til new baby new house.

Hi to everyone else, Beanie, Blackrock, Puree, Ei, Glastochick, M2O, stillstanding,
Jaamy, Mollie and everyone!

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 15/06/2009 22:17

They do like to ask things like that - the gynae consultant said 'do you have sex from day 11, I always recommend to ladies trying to conceive they have sex from day 11 as you don't always ovulate on day 14' I said yes we do (thinking 'duh, we on the conception thread could teach you a thing or two').

Then he asked if I orgasmed - I put that number one on my 'questions you don't need to hear when you're having a gynae internal done'.

Remind me what your DH's problem is? If there is a problem with him I can't see the point in making the two of you wait another 6 months before referral - maybe your DH should ask this?

PistachioLemon · 16/06/2009 09:52

I know they're doing their job but some of the questions are hilarious. He evers so kindly asked if I wanted to come back at some point for more information so that I could understand how it all worked. Duh! Biology A-Level, TCYOF, Zita West, MN and t'internet, I probably know as much as I really need to at this stage.

The problem with DH is that he had a testicular tortion when he was at university. Basically, the spermatic cord twists and cuts off blood supply and surgery is needed to correct it. DH luckily had surgery quite quickly so they were able to save the testicle. But what we don't know is the extent to which it was damaged and whether that has caused any problems with his little swimmers.

So what we've decided to do is just carry on this month as we have been, and if it comes to nothing then DH will do the test. The little pot is hilarious though, talk about requiring expert aim!

Hi all - sorry for being so quiet - am now back from wonderful holiday. Particularly wonderful as I got a BFP on Friday!!!

Still can't quite believe it and am trying very hard (unsuccessfully to date) not to get too excited until the proverbial 12 weeks as so many of my friends have had mc's lately and I know the risk is there. But still .... HURRAH!!!

Really does feel totally unreal. We have been trying for so long and I just can't believe that it has finally happened and just after we had the tests done and it didn't look too promising .... I think this thread was the clincher and just wish I had joined ages ago!!

Thank you so much for all your support - I really appreciate it - but if you don't mind I will still be here!

beanieb · 16/06/2009 12:21

Hi everyone,

Just letting you know that the second scan measured me at 6. 2 weeks when I should have been almost 9 so we opted for the medical management which was pretty awful but is all done now. If this happens again I won't be doing it that way as it really wasn't nice.

Am still bleeding but it's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Have decided to go back to work on Thursday. Haven't been offered hormone tests so am just going to wait until I get a proper period and will add myself back to the list when it happens.

We're trying to be positive and emotionally I feel ok so long as I don't think about how I was pregnant 2 weeks ago but am not now. The Doctor said I can go back onto the Clomid as soon as I get my period but we've decided to try the first month without and then continue.

Hope all are well.

x

BeanieB, I am so so sorry. It sounds like the most awful experience and you are handling it with incredible grace and courage. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

ClaireDeLoon · 16/06/2009 15:49

Well I'm getting pre-period spotting - if it is another 26 day cycle I guess period is due Thursday.

Which makes this month the most hilarious cycle I've ever had. I had about 6 bleed free days post period and pre mid cycle bleeding starting on CD12. This stopped on Friday so I've had 4 days with no bleeding before my period spotting starts. Life's a joy isn't it - 10 bleed free days

Oh well I'm gonna try REALLY HARD this month. We'll even try the 'stay stuck togther for 5 mins after sex' advice my bonkers gynae suggested.

PistachioLemon · 16/06/2009 16:20

Beanie, I'm so sorry you've had such a horrible time. I've been thinking of you actually and hoping that you're okay. It sounds like you're being very strong, but please do make sure you have time for yourself and your husband to grieve too. Having said that, going back to work might be good too so that you have something else to focus on, but please do take it easy and put yourself first.

Claire, 10 bleed-free days, is that a record?!? So whenabouts are you ovulating in the cycle? I'm trying really hard this month too, we're going to do every other day, then every day when it gets to ovulation and a couple of days after, then a break, then an extra go just in case. Woohoo. Not sure about the being stuck togetherness, but it might work, so you could try it out and report back! Or not. That might be a bit weird!

Stillstanding - congratulations! You must be over the moon after 13 months of trying. So, did you do anything different this month (apart from joining this thread of course)?

Hi to everyone else.

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 16/06/2009 16:24

PL I think about day 12 - unless my LP has shortened. Maybe I should get some pee sticks and chart a bit again to see.

That sounds like a lot of sex you'll be having!!!! Makes me tired just thinking of it

PistachioLemon · 16/06/2009 16:28

Yeah makes me tired just thinking about it too, especially when it's so hot! I'm afraid after nearly 11 years together it is a bit more of a slog than in the early days but it's nice actually to be getting back into the swing of things as we had let it go a bit. Ah well, it's a plan, we'll see how it goes.

Oh, Claire, I nearly forgot to say, I have loads of cheapie ebay OV tests if you want me to send you some. I've no idea if they work or not - I gave up on them after about three days as they completely freaked me out, but if you'll find them useful I'm very happy to pop them in the post.

Cycle 20... somewhat depressing. Ended up being a 21 day cycle in the end as well. All sucks!

PL, how annoying about the doctors! I guess if they find something with your hubby then at least you'll know earlier, although I'm not sure if that can be classed as good news or not (men seem harder to fix!)

Claire, got to love 10 bleed-free days! Hope the locking together pays off - and if not, that you enjoy it

beanie, so very sorry. As PL said, hope you can take the time you need to recover emotionally as much as physically.

StillStanding, congratulations! We are evidently a lucky thread to join - perhaps I need to leave and then come back

Hey to everyone else. Quiet in here at the moment!

ClaireDeLoon · 16/06/2009 21:15

shayera sorry you're back at the top

PistachioLemon · 16/06/2009 21:15

Shayera, it sucks that you're back at the top again. Are your cycles always so short? Good luck for cycle 20 though. LOL, maybe you should leave and re-join so that StillStanding passes the luck onto you next.

Oh, and about my husband's swimmers, I'm of the opinion that I'd rather know, than keep trying and not know IYSWIM. At least then I'd know what I'm up against and can prepare myself. But hopefully it won't come to that and the tests will come back okay. Or better yet, I'll get up the duff before the tests are done. That would be wonderful.

OP posts:
stillstanding · 17/06/2009 16:46

Thanks for all your lovely messages.

PL, in answer to your question (which was ALWAYS something I was dying to ask my friends everytime they announced their pregancies after 2 mins of trying), is no, I'm not sure we did do anything different. Certainly nothing significant but there were a few things that it might be worth mentioning:

  1. I put DH on special vitamins for fertility for men. As you know, the consultant said that his little guys had ishoos so I suspect this was quite NB.

  2. I bought and started using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. This is pretty expensive and I'm not sure that it came up with a different ovulation date to the ones I was getting from the usual sticks but I guess every little bit helps ...

  3. This time we had sex a couple of days after ovulation as well. Usually we are completely knackered by this point but we thought we would give it a go.

  4. I'd also recently started dieting and going to gym and had a lost a bit (but not nearly enough) of weight.

Soo ... as you can see not really much different. Part of me wonders if after the fertility tests where they gave us low odds the pressure was off and we relaxed a bit more but most of me thinks that beefing up DH's sperm was a big factor. That and incredible luck - which I have decided is the main component in this TTC "game".

Really am crossing fingers for you all. It is just so, so crap going through all these cycles and I am thinking of you.

stillstanding · 17/06/2009 16:47

PL, I really found the ov sticks very useful - do they not work for you?
