PL - Hope you're ok. Is it today you go to the doctor?

Had lunch with my mum today and she has said she will help me if I want to have IUI - I am really grateful but I feel really guilty too. I sometimes forget how much my miscarriage upset her, she found it really hard to see me so upset and I guess she lost a potential granchild as much as I did a potential baby

Just had a woman in the office who suffers from horrendous endometriosis which has meant several operations and hopitalisation. Anyway - she's pregnant. Was telling my work mate all about 'a fertility drug called Clomid' and how it worked first time etc etc. I am so pleased for her but just knew that as soon as she left my work mate would say something ... She did 'See beanieb, it gives you hope doesn't it' .... hrmph. Not really it doesn't. I got pregnant on clomid after 18 months of trying and niscarried and haven't got pregnant since ... she got pregnant first time on clomid and hasn't miscarried... so it doesn't give me hope at all!

And this is meant to be the good part of my cycle.

Sorry to be in such a grump. Hope all are ok?

PistachioLemon · 23/10/2009 21:53

Hi guys, thanks so much for replying and asking after me. Doctors was today and it was pretty rubbish. She said that there were only 3% 'normal' sperm on top of there only being a quarter of the number that there normally would be, so basically we've very little hope of getting pregnant naturally.

She said it wasn't impossible but if it happened it would be akin to a miracle. DH then suggested we go to church on Sunday morning :D

Anyhow, she said to think about it over the weekend and to let her know if we'd like to be referred to a fertility clinic. Apparantly we get one shot at IVF on the NHS but there are other options too - I guess she meant IUI.

Ah well, I pretty much knew that was coming but I was so upset I hardly asked any questions at all. Poor doctor, I did proper snotty sobbing crying for about five minutes. Shay thanks for all the info, hopefully I won't be such a mess next week and will be able to ask proper questions instead of unintelligible rubbish.

Beanie your mum sounds really sweet. Do you think you'll take her up on the offer? I suppose it's a lot to think about. How many more months on Clomid can you do? What's your doctor like? Do they have any other suggestions for you?

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 23/10/2009 22:09

Oh, and I forgot to say, the doctor said it was very likely that the problem was caused by the tortion DH had, and said it's possible he had a lesser one too on the 'good' testicle but that wasn't picked up either at the same time or when he was a child. DH said that made him feel a little bit better about the whole thing but also told me later that this is the lowest he's ever felt in his entire life.

OP posts:
beanieb · 23/10/2009 22:33

PL am sorry to hear this news. Hopefully this will mean that you can get straight into IVF or IUI once you have time to think about it? I hope you get referred soon.

I wish I could do or say something more helpful than I'm thinking of you and your DH and I am so sorry it wasn't better news. Take care of eachother and don't be too hard on yourselves, though I know that's so easy to say when not going through this kind of thing myself.

My mum is lovely and I will take her up on the offer if I need to. She said it was to make up for all the things I didn't have as a child but really I had a very happy and simple childhood and I don't really want her to have to pay for something which may not even work. I have 2 more months of clomid and an appointment at the end of November where I'll ask about IUI. My Doctor is ok, just a bit business-like.

PistachioLemon · 23/10/2009 22:40

I know, I hardly know what to say myself to DH, and we're the ones going through it. I think kind thoughts are always appreciated though, so thank you very much.

I hate it when doctors are just business like. Although maybe that's a male/female thing? My DH likes his doctor because he doesn't faff around and just gets down to it. Whereas I like the more girlie, human touch!

Maybe keep your Mum's offer as an ace up the sleeve to be played if and when you need to? I'm sure she wouldn't have offered if she didn't want to help you, and if you do need it, and it did work, she'd be the best granny in the world.

Just updating. Jaamy have left your cycle # the same for now.

ClaireDeLoon · 24/10/2009 18:24

PL sorry your news from the docs was not good, I hope you can quickly get treatment. Is there any limit to the number of IUI cycles you can do? And will they do the sperm washing thing? Am thinking of you and your DH too.

Beanie your mum sounds lovely and supportive. I hope her offer won't be needed but just knowing you have that option there is great. I hope you're OK, how is this cycle going do you think?

Shayera do you know when your ICSI/IVF consultation will be?

Jaamy sorry you're back at the top and about your neighbours, it's so unfair.

I've got a scan Friday, I'll be 8 1/2 weeks by then, had a scan a couple of weeks ago and no heartbeat but was on the cusp of being too early. Have been having spotting for the last two weeks so not feeling massively hopeful about things but only time will tell.

beanieb · 24/10/2009 18:31

Oh Claire I hope that the scan has good results, will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

This Cycle has been pretty much the same as the others with the usual imaginary signs starting to happen the last couple of days like slightly sore boobs etc. I didn't manage to get a positive OPK result and apart from the one show of EWCM which was possibly just pre-seed from the night before [blush} I had no signs of ovulation but did get another 21 day test (On day 19 as my cycle is short) so will have the results back next week some time. Only a month or so until I see teh consultant again and we're going to ask about IUI.

BuddhaBellyBigPants · 26/10/2009 20:45

Jaamy Sorry you are back at the top after a hopeful delay, it's just awful the way our bodies will tease us sometimes. at your neighbours, makes you sick doesn't it!
PL So sorry to hear your news Hope DH is OK too? Really hope you won't have to wait too long for treatment. Hopefully you will get some answers when you go back this week but don't expect not to cry again, your on a highly emotional journey x
Shayer Good to see things moving in the right direction for you at last, any idea how long it will be until your first go?
Beanie How lovely of your Mum to offer to pay for IUI, bless her Wonderfully insensitive of your colleague, maybe you should have just said what you felt, that would have made her
Claire Good luck for Friday, the spotting may well be nothing to worry about, I really hope so and I will be checking on Friday for your good news

thegreatescape · 27/10/2009 13:23

Hi all

I was on the 'strictly come baby dancing' thread but haven't been on for a few months. Have now got a BFP last week and am approx 6 weeks! Had to tell someone! apart from DH of course.

We'd been trying about 16 cycles and I'd had the blood tests, scan and told all was well. Word of warning about ovulation kits though. I used the digital ones from days 10-20 same time every day and got a negative every day. My cycle is fairly regular at 27-28 days so I must have ovulated but it didn't pick it up.

Good luck to all on here.

beanieb · 28/10/2009 09:52

Oh that's great news thegreatescape CONGRATULATIONS to you and your DH. Do you think you will tell anyone else or are you going to keep it a secret for as long as you can?

Am about to get my period, hopefully in the next two days because it's been a killer of a slow month for me and if my body starts playing tricks on me and I go over my usual cycle length of 26 days then I will be very annoyed.

Boobs are throbbing so am assuming this is the period coming rather than pregnancy.

Wave to all. PL hope you're ok and Claire good luck for Friday. x

thegreatescape · 28/10/2009 12:11

Thanks Beanie. I am 6 weeks today and only people told are you lot and DH! Would like to keep it secret but i work in A&E and with the swine flu, other infectious diseases etc sometimes you have to blab for safety reasons. I'm currently trying to find out about the jab and will have a look on the thread on here.

I think i will be showing quckly too, already look a bit podgey and my family are not the type who are polite enough not to ask if you are pg! We shall see. Iwould much rather have a scan under my belt but will have to go with the flow. Have also had sore boobs.

beanieb · 29/10/2009 21:57

Hrrmmph. My body is playing tricks on me. yesterday afternoon when I wiped I had a very small amount of brownish gunge (TMI!) so went to bed with a sanitary towel which was clean as a whistle this morning. Been waiting all day for something to happen (period due tomorrow) but only had one small trace of brown gunge. I never really have spotting and haven't had any of the usual symptoms apart from a complete emotional melt-down on Monday.

It's about 13 DPO now and I just want my body to work so I can start back on the clomid. Or if it's not going to happen I'd like some pregnancy symptoms please! Haven't tested yet.

PistachioLemon · 30/10/2009 10:24

Beanie, I'm crossing fingers. I hope your body isn't being cruel. Hugs.

TGE Congratulations! You must be so excited. When are you due?

I think i'm due 22nd June. Had job interview at work this week and didn't get the job when i've been working really hard and have done everything they wanted. Balls.I won't be moaning on here though!

I'm only 6 + 3 and it feels like things are crawling along at the minute. Feeling very cautious due to age and the fact that i take medication which hasn't proved to be harmful in pregancy so far

Crossing everything for you all.

ClaireDeLoon · 30/10/2009 15:15

Not good news from me, no development since around six weeks. We were pretty much expecting this with the problems in the last few weeks and knowing my existing problems and tbh it doesn't feel as raw and painful as the previous miscarriage felt for either of us. In fact it's taken us by surprise how OK we both feel, very sad of course but even seeing a few newborns in the supermarket wasn't at all upsetting.

I think I'll just go with letting nature take it's course which may take a couple of weeks but I'd prefer that to a general anaesthetic.

I'll be back with you all in a few weeks once things get back to normal.

Hope you're all OK and just wanted to say thank you all for your good wishes it means a lot.

PistachioLemon · 30/10/2009 20:34

Claire, I'm so sorry. Hope you're able to have a peaceful weekend and that nature takes its course sooner, rather than later (I hope that doesn't sound mean and callous). Big, big hugs.

Ei and Beanie sorry to see you back at the top

Starting to get some aches and pains now, I've pulled a sickie today but was in yesterday. I'm sitting here wishing my body would just get on with things - we're going to Edinburgh for the weekend and I'd much rather not be lying in a hotel room feeling shit and sorry for myself.

Btw I am sure I saw somewhere that Glasto is pregnant - can't remember how far on now.

Claire - hope you are ok

Just needed to rant and I have no where else to put it but here. I have been trying to be more positive, not to wallow and not to worry about still not getting pregnant ...

So just been talking to my work mate who I otherwise get on very well with and who also had a miscarriage many years ago so was very supportive when I had mine and I really appreciated it... but... sometimes she says the most inapropriate things!

Was just talking to her about a friend of mine who is due in january, the week after I would have been, and how she most probably got pregnant at the wedding we both went to at the end of April. I was saying how I must have been just a week or so pregnant by then and not known it, and my friend possibly got pregnant while at the wedding. Anyway - work mate says

"can I ask a question... did you drink that weekend! "

Implying that because I did (I had a couple, my friend had much much more) then that is why I miscarried. FFS.

And relax.... back to being positive I go.

Grrrrrr

PandaEis · 04/11/2009 10:57

beanie[angy] at your 'friend' FWIW i was very drunk (tequila slammers drunk)at my house-warming party 3 days before i got BFP with my DD!! tell your friend to bugger off!! it WAS NOT your fault that you had a MC it was just one of those awful things that happened
