Ok, so I?ve switched to soy milk recently, ostensibly to help my recurring sinus problems, but also with the thought that dairy encourages thicker mucus which may be difficult for swimmers to get through (nb not scientifically researched). Now I find that soy milk has a detrimental effect on fertility. How on earth am I going to get through ttc without a cappuccino (or gin) now and then?

Anything else I should be avoiding/increasing?

GOOD
Grapefruit juice
Folic acid (dark green veg)

BAD
Soy milk
Caffeine
Gin

See, to my mind, soy should be with the other dull-but-necessary items and not nestling alongside the good stuff.

how long have you been ttc?

Only this year. Have noticed (TMI alert!) that I seem to have quite gloopy CM, put 2 and 2 together and wondered if it might be thinned by dairy avoidance. Though I've just found that studies suggest full-fat milk and ice cream in small quantities aid fertility. It's all very confusing.

GOOD
Grapefruit juice
Dark green veg (folic acid)
Ice cream & full fat milk

Bad
Soy milk
Caffeine
Gin

Maybe try rice milk instead. I think that if you try and eat healthily i.e. lots of fruit veg, carbs and protein then you will be fine. In the Zita West book it goes on about alkaline foods being good as if your body is too acidic (from eating meat/fizzy drinks etc) then this can cause problems. Melon in particular is meant to be brilliant at balancing this out so I try and eat it a couple of times a week now(it is not about not eating acidic foods but making sure that you eat something alkaline to counteract it).

I always find chocolate and red wine helps me to destress so I think it can't be bad when ttc. Not sure I could give up gin and tonic either - not until I get a bfp anyway!

drinking lots of water thins out mucus I'd recommend 2 - 3 litres per day - really made a difference to me
