Can someone tell me about temperatures and ovulation?

We are TTCing by natural IUI (frozen, donor sperm). I've been charting temperature for a few months to see the pattern. Normally I get a LH surge around day 14, my temperature rises day 16, and so I assume I ovulate day 15.

This month I didn't surge till day 16, so went for IUI on day 17. But my temperature also rose on day 17. Does that mean I'd already ovulated and this IUI was too late?

I fear I've wasted £lots and one of my natural IUI chances (they clinic like you to switch to stimulated if you're not pregnant in 3 attempts).

No it's not as cut and dried as that.
The egg survives for 12-24 hours and you could've O on cd17 or as easily cd16.
LH surge can be detected 2 days before O, just depends on when you test.

You could have below coverline temps on cd16, O the same day which would raise temp on cd17.

Temp can rise from a change in sleep pattern, alcohol, illness etc

Hopefully you've caught it & baby is winding it's way to you x

I can recommend the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book by Toni Wechsler if you haven't already got it... it has really good explanations of everything.

thanks sorky, so if I O'd on day 16 (saw strong surge around 11am), it would still possible to conceive with an IUI on day 17? There was no change in sleep pattern, alcohol or anything, it was a clear 36.1/36.2 for several days to 36.4/36.5 since... still. fingers crossed

I will try and look out that book, thanks, PL.
