Hi, im no expert but it is possible that you dont ov mid cycle. for example if you have a 32 day cycle and a 12 day luteul phase then you would ov on day 20... even if you have a 28 day cycle you could still ov as early as day 12 or as late as day 16.

what is your cycle length?

have you read taking charge of your fertility?? someone reccomended it to me yesterday and its brilliant. explains everything. In the book it says that you cant ovulate during your period.

Took 1 1/2 years of trying before I took real notice of my body and discovered I ovulate on day 21 of a 29 day cycle. Two cycles later I fell pregnant!!

It means I don't get the dreaded two week wait. Just 8 days until I am 'late'.

Hope this helps.

Queen

A woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in ANY given cycle. It is also possible to have periods without ovulating.

You are more likely to be ovulating on a regular basis if your periods are consistently regulr. If your periods are irregular in nature you are less likely to be ovulating regularly.

Oh fantastic abroadandmisunderstood!! So its quite possible that some women having trouble conceiving are 'trying' at the wrong time and dont even know it!?? Why is it so widely believed that ovulation ALWAYS occurs on or around day 14 if it doesnt always, i know you should probably just figure your own body out for yourself but i dont think women always do.

I have mostly regular periods but twice in my life have had one only 14 days after the last. I assumed (no way to tell as not using any ovulation tester) that on those occasions I ovulated during my period. After all 'natural family planning' involves taking temperature every day, checking cervical mucus and so forth doesn't it? (Have not tried it myself)
If everyone ovulated on day 14 all you would need to avoid conception would be a calendar.

I sometimes find myself with a head full of dates and times etc when DH and I are 'doing the deed', thinking about ovulation and when is the best time.

Reading this makes me just think that DH and I should have fun at any time of the month we like and see what happens.

I came off the pill at the end of March 2009, had a period the following month, so I'm still trying to figure out my UCL and all the rest of that.

The joys.

Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) are the best way to check. They recommend that if you have a regular cycle, using your 28day cycle as an example, that you should start testing on day 10 through to 16 (you get 7 sticks to pee on). When you get your hormone surge it signals that ovulation is imminent and that having sex at that time would be beneficial (as swimmers can last a good few days).
I used them this month and found that my CM changed the next day, which also signals ovulation.
Good luck!

Buying OPKs was how I figured out why I wasn't getting pregnant. I was also watching temp and CM and after 1 month of no success with OPK and all other methods, knuckled down and watched every sign from my body.

Moods, CM, temp, aches in Fallopian area. After day 14 of second cycle using them I realised there were no signals so bit my lip and waited.Bingo!! Around day 21 came the aches and +ve OPK, along with vile moods etc. ..

I now have two gorgeous boys. It may not be the answer but hope it illustrates that our bodies are all different. The 14 day until ovulation is not across the board.

NB. Both boys were conceived when stress was removed too.

I was a regular mid cycle ovulator until I had ds now every month I ov extremely late on in my cycle, I also had extremely irregular periods for a while when they returned after ds until they settled into a late ov.
