In a bit of a tizzy ... BD, CD ... which are the best days?

I keep reading all the conception information and I am getting confused. Which days are you supposed to BD on for the highest chance of conception...

If you ovulate on CD14 then should it be the few days in the run up to that?

This is the first cycle post mc for us and so I am not exactly sure of my ovulation day ... but working on the assumption that it is CD14.

There are no real set days you should bd for the highest chance of conception.

What you need to consider is what your periods are generally like in terms of regularity. If they are regular you are more likely to be ovulating, the opposite is true when the menstrual cycle is irregular.

Never assume that the ovulation day is day 14. Its all too easy to get that date wrong!. Ovulation is not an exact science and a woman can ovulate earlier, later - or not at all in ANY given cycle. Its certainly therefore not always 14 days before the start of the next period.

Would say make love when you both feel like it. Do not stress yourselves out further by thinking about timing of intercourse. General advice seems to be two or three times a week throughout the cycle.

Agree with AttilaTheMeerkat in the sense that very few people are entirely 'regular', so you can't just assume you'll ovulate on CD14. And if you're happy to BD every two or three days throughout your cycle, then great. But if you either can't (travel a lot etc) or simply don't have the energy, then it is helpful to know a bit about your cycle.

I'm no expert, but IIRC the basic science is as follows. Sperm can live in the body for up to three days or so, so if you BD in the three days leading up to ovulation, then you've got a chance of conceiving. But eggs only live for about 12-24 hours, so your fertility window closes somewhere in the 24 hours after you ovulate. So, the key thing is to try to work out when you ovulate. You can buy ovulation sticks that you wee on and tell you when you're ovulating, or you can record other signs in your body (ie temperature, changes in cervix and cervical mucus) that indicate where you are in your cycle. Once you've got an idea of how your personal cycle works, then you've got a much better idea of when to BD. HTH.
