hubby away in week

my husband is starting a new job where he will be away mon to fri and home at the weekends. we are ttc but now only at weekends. what are my chances of concieving when we wont be trying on my ovulation dates (as they are midweek). this is prob a stupid question but ive heard sperm can live up to 5 days inside you, does anyone know if this is true. im even considering asking him to leave me some and will do it myself with a turkey baster(blush) (grin)... she says desperatly

At some point in time your cycle will be such that you will likely ovulate closer to the weekend. While most sperm will die off within in a few days, some will live longer getting to 5 days, possibly even a bit longer. This is only when your body is close to ovulation however, otherwise they die off fairly quickly at other times of the month.

If you had sex Monday morning, you would be covered for a midweek ovulation and possibly even that towards the end of the week...then you can resume your efforts Friday night.... With the egg being viable for about 24 hours, you might catch the egg just after ovulation as well.

Your odds go down a bit, simply because you won't have as many opportunities to try, but it doesn't mean it can't happen.

My DP wasnt even in country when I ovulated, he's over the moon to be trying and I warned him I really didnt think there was any chance of an April pregnancy, this seemed to throw down some sort of gauntlet..........
Am very aware of my dates as ovulation prediction has been my method of contraception for over 8 years...I honestly thought we were infertile as clearly was very effective, no mishaps etc. However got pg in 1st month of 'trying' and I mean not trying very hard....had sex 15th ov 17th 18th ish had sex 19th. Dunno which one did it.....but it did. Am 36...thought was over the hill, not exactly a teenager anymore.
So just make sure you try hard when you can, and I suggest dont lose any...you know....bum half way up the headboard and may I suggest in this position mastabate so that the cervix hoovers it deep in. This is somewhat easier if husb loves you and leaves immediately for work as mine happened to on this occasion. I dunno if this helped!

Not sure if its accessible on line but the 'journey of sperm' recently on tv had useful tips as to conception.. what to do not to do etc.Sperm is known to survive a week inside.
