Not Pregnant Yet.. Any suggestions?!?!

I am 21 and went off the pill 6 months ago and I am still not pregnant. I have had a regular period up in till february. I have not had my period since then, and pregancy test shows negitive. Any suggestions? I thought I would get pregnant rather quickly, but I guess not! If you have any suggestions please let me know!

sconn, your body may take a while to get back to normal after coming off the pill and even though you thought you were back to normal, obviously your not

im not sure, i think it can take up to a year to get the pill right out of your system...like i say im not sure, perhaps someone can correct me if im wrong

I've been discussing this recently with a friend and we both have found - sorry if this is too obvious - that having lots of sex really helps.

By lots I mean every 48 hours.

And, if your periods have not been regular, every 48 hours throughout your cycle.

I also think it helps if you both enjoy your baby making to the peak of enjoyment IYKWIM .

It might be worth seeingyour doctor if you don't get another period soon.

Hi i was on the pill for 4 yrs then decided that me and dp wanted to try for our first baby, i cae off the pill and i fell pregnant within 3 months but i adit we were "at it" like rabbits 2-3 times a day......yes it was hard work but it payed off in the end!

We are trying to conceive now and i have not been on the pill for about 9 months i did fall pregnant within the first month aftercoming off the pill but had a mc. We have been trying since xmas now but nothing yet but let me just add its not 2-3 times a day more like week lol

There is a herb called Agnus Castus which can help to bring your periods back and then at least you know when youa re ovulating etc. www.nourish-fertility.com have a list of practitioners dealing with this kind of thing. Best of luck.

if you don't have a menstrual cycle it is unlikely you are ovulating... it can take a while to kick in after taking pill but I would suggest you go see your GP -- a simple blood test will indicate if you are ovulating.... other than that, have loads of sex but not more than every 48 hours, don't binge drink, give up smoking, and try to relax...

Hello,ive been off the pill for 5 months and trying hard for a second child,our son was an accident but a lovely one!Now we're trying its just not happening,i try not to get upset but i am begging to worry that theres something wrong.How long should i leave it until going to my GP?

the general rule is after 1 year of trying for under 35 and after 6 months for over 35 ... good luck!

if you are under 35, the general rule of thumb is to leave it one year before seeing a GP. yes, it can take many, many months for ovulation to begin again after going off contraception. it certainly did for me!

if you're on the cusp - say, 34 - or 35+ see what your GP has to say after 6 months of trying.

lucymoo, I know it's so easy to start worrying, and a natural reaction perhaps, but the chances are everything's fine - remember, you're not ovulating every day, and there is only one or two days in the month when you have a good chance of conceivingm then there's all the work those poor little sperm have to do.... I would personally wait about 9 months or so before consulting, and keep having fun while trying!

Unfortunately it doesn't always happen as quickly as we'd like! I've put below some info published by the HFEA which you may find encouraging.

Getting pregnant is harder than you might think. On average, if you are having sex regularly without using contraception you should conceive within two years. But in any one month your chance of getting pregnant is only 20 per cent.

To give you some idea, in 100 couples:
20 will conceive within one month
70 will conceive within six months
85 will conceive within a year
90 will conceive within 18 months
95 will conceive within two years

How many periods have you missed? I think if you had regular periods and they suddenly stop then I would go to see your GP. It may well be nothing, but suddenly stopping menstruating does need checking out IMO.
The pill hormones leave your system almost immediately btw, which is why people get pregnant if they miss a pill!

Pure guesswork this but would think that a hormonal imbalance is perhaps behind all this. It is a common cause of period cessation. I think the suggestions made to visit your doc to have a blood test done to check your hormone levels is a good one. If your hormone levels are awry (they need to COMPARE your LH levels against your FSH levels: if LH is higher then this can be indicative of hormonal problems and then you have your answer as to why your periods have stopped). Hormonal problems are very common and can be treated. You ought to be referred to a gynaecologist though as this is outside a GPs remit.

The pill leaves your system very quickly after you stop taking it (unlike other forms of contraception like depo). If you are not having periods then you are not ovulating. Actually it is possible to have periods without ovulating.

Would suggest you seek medical advice re this matter as if it is your hormones causing all this then it needs treatment. Such problems if they are there do not go away on their own.
