Has anyone used this to get pregnant and how useful was it? Want some views before I go ahead and spend the £64 on it...
thanks

There's a thread somewhere on here about using Persona as a contraceptive and almost everyone said if you want to get pregnant use one, but not if you DON'T want to get PG, so that sounds like quite good advise to me.

I can't do links, well don't know how to actually, but if you do a search it's sure to come up.

EmmaTMG · 24/04/2003 17:21

Ohhh, I'm not sure if that last post makes sense.
The other thread was advising people NOT to use as a contraceptive as they all became PG whilst using it.
Hope that clearer.

Flippa, I found it worked well (within three months in fact) on two occasions. I never had much luck with ovulation sticks and liked the idea that theoretically the outlay gave you a contraceptive device in due course.
Mind you, my original and beloved Persona fell down the loo and was never the same again. So don't keep it on the loo cistern!

nerdgirl · 25/04/2003 08:07

Marina, that's exactly where I keep it or I'd forget to use the damn thing!

Flippa, Persona was responsible for both of my sons - the first time because it's a lousy contraceptive but the second time I got pregnant deliberately on the first try.

Thanks - couldn't find the previous threads. Looks like it might be worth forking out the money for, given your experiences....

Flippa - hope this doesn't constitute an ad (and I get charged by Mumsnet!) but if you want a Persona I have one to sell in perfect working order. In fact I was just about to advertise it on Mumsnet/ eBay. I used it for 4 years both as a contraceptive and ovulation predicter. I now have 2 children (intentionally!) and we just really don't want to have any more, so it isn't really appropriate for us any longer - that's the only reason I'm selling. Let me know if you're interested and were can 'chat' offline..

Thanks heaps but have just been offered one by a friend of mine.

I purchased one of these a week ago and am going to use it for this cycle. Getting desperate now, after many months of ttc.

Hi Lucie B! I just started back on persona after about 3 years. I want to use it to try and get pregnant. I had a m/c about 2 months ago and really want another baby now. I was on day 15 yesterday and it came up with the ovulation symbol. I'm really chuffed cos it means I'm ovulating. I wanted to check this out with Persona so gave them a call. The advisor said the persona detected the lutinising hormone in my urine and that means I will ovulate in 24-36 hours. Sure enough I felt the twinges about 12 hours later. Desperatley wanted to jump on my husband but need to leave it till next month as we're going on holiday and I want to drink - like a fish!
Must point out the unit will not normally show an ovulating symbol in the 1st 3 months of use. It will give you lots of red days so it would be hard to judge which days you are ovulating in the first 3 months.
Can I suggest you use an ovulation kit alongside your persona for the fist couple of months. They use the same method - detecting the lutinising hormone before you ovulate.
Hope this info is of use!!
Best of luck!!

I love my persona - and used it as a successful contraception for three years, and then we got pregnant first go, having sex during the weekend the "O" symbol was displayed. (As my DH called it - the "Uh Oh!" symbol...)

But I do think they take about 6 months to get your cycle accurate.

Metrobaby · 14/05/2003 13:40

I like my Persona too. Used it as a successful contraceptive for a year. Have recently gone back to using it now after a long break - but my Persona did detect ovulation in my first 3 months.
