How soon after "doing it" can you do a pregnancy test?

I thought I'd heard there were tests you could do two days after "doing it". Is that right? I "did it" on Thursday and would like to do a test as I have an Xray tomorrow and don't want to go through with it if there's a little tiny baby inside me!

Not heard of that test - not sure how soon it shows up in your blood but if you have an xray due then speak to the doc and they might suggest a blood test just in case.

ScorpiowithabigS · 28/04/2009 14:06

No that test does not exist, baby doesnt even implant! I would leave 10-12 days at least, better 14, after the last day of sex. Then you will get a pretty reassuring answer.

You can tell them at your appt you may be pg.

Um no. Please tell me this is a joke thread.

Implantation takes 10-14 days post ovulation.

babyboom1979 · 28/04/2009 14:12

This must be a joke thread.

No such test exists.

nitemare · 28/04/2009 14:16

OK, I must have heard it wrong! It's not a joke thread; it's just apparently my knowledge of the female reproductive system is a joke! Oops, never mind I'll postpone the Xray just in case.

Please do not have a baby before you even have the basic knowledge of what is going to happen to your body and when.

melancholymum · 28/04/2009 14:19

Wow, poor lass - she doesn't need shooting down!

nitemare · 28/04/2009 14:19

Sod off I already have a child. Excuse me for being wrong about something!

I agree with you there melancholymum.

Nitemare - what part of you is being x-rayed?

nitemare · 28/04/2009 14:26

Thank you Mrs. Happy Are you MelancholyMUm's alter ego? (get it Happy/Melancholy, Ha, ha!)
My hands and feet are being Xrayed!
Now before anyone lays into me, I am fully aware that that is NOT where the baby is (if there is a baby) Though please do correct me if I'm wrong on that count.

Probably easiest to call doctor's office and say you may be pregnant. They will postpone your xray until you have a blood test to confirm whether you are or not. Blood tests can detect HCG levels from between 7-12 days post ovulation.

MrsHappy · 28/04/2009 14:31

The reason I ask is that if it isn't your abdomen/torso, it might be fine for you to put a couple of lead aprons over your middle and still have the x-ray. I'd ask the hospital before postponing. Statistically the chances are you aren't pregnant (sorry, but it's true) even if you had perfectly-timed sex so it would be a shame to postpone only to be in the same position next month!

nitemare · 28/04/2009 14:37

I think I'll postpone it just in case- I know they won't do it if you think you might be pregnant even if it isn't the abdomen- I'll wait till I can do a test then rearrange it and keep DH off me while I do. Shouldn't be too difficult, we are not very rampant these days.
The X-ray isn't an urgent thing- they're not all broken or anything. And if I had it then found out later this month that I am preggers I'd spend 9 months worrying myself sick that I'd nuked the baby!

The earliest is 6 days post ovulation. The most sensitive tests you can get are Sainsbury's or Asda's own brand.
