i posted recently about this but am now very worried. my period is 14 days late now. i had two days of light pink discharge last week. last night was having sex with dh and suddenly it became acutely painful and then the pain spread across my stomach and stomach felt swollen and full. was extremely painful for several hours. now has subsided to a hot achey pain and i feel a bit sick. going to go to doctor on mon or tuesday on advice of nhs direct but very worried what this could be and worried its a sign there's something badly wrong that will mean i Can.t ever have a family. getting quite upset. can anyone provide advice or reassurance? any one had similar? thanks

im lurking because i get the same pain as you describe! the only thing i can say to reassure you is the fact that i have had tests and scans and it shows nothing is wrong
totally understand about feeling upset about not ever having a baby, wishing you all the best at the doctors, come back and let me know!

dancingqueeen · 19/04/2009 15:28

i didnt have a period for over 200 days post mc....even now 7 months on i can go way over! the pain is the same as yours and only ever after sex and sometimes if i drink spirits? all my test come back negative as well....are you trying for your first baby?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 19/04/2009 16:43

To both you and barbie1,

Painful sex can be indicative of endometriosis. This needs to be mentioned to your GP asap and you should be further evaluated by a gynae.

Unfortunately endo deposits are very small and are not detected through either scans or blood tests. Its usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery operation called a laparoscopy.

babyboom1979 · 19/04/2009 17:32

I agree with Atila -- painful sex can be a sign of endometriosis and should be looked into by your doctor.

Scans and blood tests aren't able to detect it and if you have been trying to conceive for a while with no success, your doctor should investigate this further.

Dancing queen - please please don't let this scare you to bits. Many women with endo concieve successfuly -- especially after having endo deposits removed.

It is also entirely possible that you just have an ovarian cyst causing pain which will eventually go away. This happenned to me and I had terrible pain during sex.

I wish you the best of luck next week at your appointment and please keep us posted.

dancingqueeen · 19/04/2009 20:02

thanks babyboom and atilla. thats helpful and I'll make sure I raise it with doctor.

Is there any chance though that this could be nohting worrying, i.e. can it be that you have pain like this and it isn't anything bad? has anyone ever experienced that and its just been a one off / not a problem? I really need some hope to cling on to. especially to hear from anyone who has successfully conceived,

OP posts:
babyboom1979 · 19/04/2009 21:48

Of course your are going to conceive -- whether or not this is a problem which needs resolving.

This could be a one-off thing or it could be something that requires attention. Just keep in mind that these days, there are very few fertility issues which can not be dealt with (on both the male and female end).

Just don't let the doctor brush you off. I did this for a year with my old gyne (and suffered in silence) only to switch doctors and finally be told by my new one that pain is not normal and should always be investigated thoroughly. It ended up being a cyst (which went away) and scar tissue from an operation i had 10 years ago! Definitely not in my head as my initial doctor had tried to convince me! And I did concieve recently (although miscarried -- but has no relation to my condition....just bad luck and trying again).

Please hang in there....all will be fine.

barbie1 · 20/04/2009 06:15

dancingqueen have you made you appointment yet? i live in dubai now so the system is different, i have to wait another month til my next check up, please keep me posted on what they say to you.
By the way i got pregnant the first month of trying (ended up having mc) so it is possible! good luck

thanks babyboom and atilla....

Hi, sorry for the delay in posting, my internet connection is a bit dodgy at the moment!

I'm going to see the doctor later on today. pain has gone now except a bit of an ache in my lower back, and the odd twinge. I'm worried he's going to think I'm fussing about nothing, but surely pain that excruciating needs looking into? especially when period is two weeks late and I had that pinkish discharge for a couple of days last week?

one thought I have had, and from googling it looks plausible, is that [tmi alert, sorry!] its just that i'm a little constipated at the moment. apparently that can cause pain during sex. would like it if that was the explanation!

will keep you posted with how I get on

Hi DancingQueen
Do not let the docstor dismiss your pains as nothing. If GP seems clueless insist there and then on being referred to a specialist.

As previously mentioned endometriosis cannot be ruled out here (deep pain during sex can be indicative of endo); it can cause problems with bowel and bladder as the endometrical deposits can attach there too.

No more googling either - this can frighten unnecessarily!!.

dancingqueeen · 21/04/2009 11:16

thanks Attilla, thats interesting that endometriosis can cause bowel problems. clearly if thats the case then I should push for more investigations. I know what you mean about googling can frighten but also I have found that it can help me to think through what symptoms I have that may be relevant to the doctor, its a delicate balance!

i hope you get some answers today x

dancingqueeen · 21/04/2009 16:26

been to doctor now, so thought I'd give you an update: I told him what happened and he examined me and said he could feel any lumps or anything to concern him. he said it was most probably Irritable Bowel/ Constipation.

He said he wouldn't do any furhter tests now, but if the pain happened again or I had any more odd discharge then they would investigate.

OP posts:
barbie1 · 21/04/2009 16:30

Been waiting for your update! i would go back in a week or so and say the pain is getting worse, and really push for some test.
Has af turned up yet?

dancingqueeen · 21/04/2009 16:49

no, no AF yet! its really frustrating me! I still think that the pain on its own, maybe not a matter of concern, but pain plus no AF plus pink bleed could mean something worse. but think the doctor just thinks i'm a stresshead

OP posts:
barbie1 · 21/04/2009 17:00

yes i was sent away from the doctors three times because they thought i was making things up! its only now having moved abroad and having to pay for treatment that they give you a fantastic service!

Have just just come of the pill or anything? i went 7 months without af after mc and even now i am not regualar,i can have a small pink bleed for a few days and then another one 7 days later...i have to go back next month is nothing happens.

So frustrating though as i would love a baby, the more you worry the more stressed it makes you....cant win can we?

dancingqueeen · 21/04/2009 17:05

I know, its terrible. you know stressing about it might make it harder, which just makes you feel guilty for stressing about it, which makes you more stressed....!

I came off the pill in august, went straight into regular cycles of about 32 days. lost count of what day this cycles on, and trying not to think about it, last period started on 6th March, it can't be that long till 6th May!!
