Morning Dawn,

It is so quiet here isn't it. Congratulations on the birth of your nephew and sorry to hear your sister has been having a hard time of it. I don't know if they are any good or not, but I heard that you can get a breastfeeding consultant or advisor to come and sit with you at home to help you with feeds. If the hospital are being rubbish maybe your GP could help find one for your sister (or google to see if there are any local ones to your sister). I can't remember where I saw it but it did stick in my mind because I thought it was such a good idea.

Glad to hear Jelly is still wriggling around. How are you feeling now?

I don't have any TTC news really - I'm on CD 24 but I've absolutely no symptoms so I reckon I'm out this month My excellent news is that I found out this morning that I passed some exams that I've been sitting so I'm over the moon about that!

How is everyone else?

DawnAS · 07/05/2009 10:43

Hey Pistachio - CONGRATULATIONS on passing your exams - well done you!! Don't give up hope yet for this month. You could still have made it!! Keeping everything crossed for you.

I am feeling mostly fine apart from the aches and pains down below. Jelly was particularly active yesterday aswell which worried me slightly as they say that you should seek advice if they're more active or less active than usual. She was kicking around for a good 2 hours, in one go, yesterday and I was starting to worry that she'd got herself stuck and was distressed. But by the time I'd had dinner last night, she seemed to have calmed down again, so fingers crossed all is fine. She's wiggling again today aswell but at her usual rate.

I've just been upstairs sorting out her clothes for the hospital bag (which we still haven't packed - eek!!).

We bought her a little pink fleece dungarees outfit from boots, with a little white long sleeved vest underneath. It comes with little matching booties. The Dungarees have got a bunny on the front and the booties have aswell - bless!! I've also packed her a Winnie the Pooh babygro, matching hat and bib for when she's first born. So look out for the pics when we've had her!!

Only two weeks left at work and I can't wait!! I'm really on wind-down now and keep falling asleep in my lunch-hour - luckily I work from home and my boss lives in Belgium, so he's not likely to know...

PistachioLemon · 07/05/2009 11:37

Thanks Dawn, I really am excited about the results as I thought I'd failed so it is brilliant news (for me!). And I haven't given up entirely on this month, but at the same time I'm not convinced anything's happening, which is probably good because it means I'm not as stressed as I usually am.

You sound so organised with clothes already picked out and everything. I can't wait until she's born! I'm sure she is ok by the way but if you're worried could you speak to your midwife about her wriggling? Just so you know how much is too much IYSWIM and then you won't worry about it so much the rest of the time (hmmm much too many 'muches' in that sentence but I can't think of how else to put it!). Oh, I can't wait to have a wriggler.

By the way, you falling asleep at lunch time made me laugh - I was once caught by my boss fast asleep at my desk and when he woke me up there was a post it stuck on my forehead. Luckily it was because I had been there for two days straight so he forgave me but I still don't think he believed I'd only been asleep for about 15 minutes!

heverhoney1 · 08/05/2009 09:58

Morning all - sorry I havent been on in a while. I delivered in the early hours on my due date (what are the chances?).

Now I am not going to lie to you ladies I didn't have the easiest of times little Chloe got stuck and I had a full emergency team getting her out. I had an episiotomy, tore a lot. BUT you guys know what a pain wuss I am I can honestly say she is worth every little bit - that and the epidural was FANTASTIC!!! No idea why anyone goes without I could still move my legs and feel a tightening across my belly so knew I was having contractions but they didnt hurt. Apart from the soreness after, which is annoying! but controlable with only a few paracetamol doses a day. I have to say I think the actual birth was more traumatic for DP and my family (Who were outside when the emergency buzzer was pushed!)

Also Dawn - I had the drip they give you to induce as my waters had meconium in them and they wanted labour to progress, they agreed not to give me a drip untill the epidural was in so I didnt feel a thing. Putting the epidural in was also a lot easier and quicker than I thought it would be. I nearly proposed to the anaesthetist there and then! The monitoring is actually quote good too if you cant move around anyway. You can watch and be sure baby is ok and also watch in amazement as the numbers go up and down showing you are contracting strongly but knowing it doesnt hurt!

Chloe weighed in at a whopping 8lb 15oz and has lovely chubby cheeks - she is brilliant!

DawnAS · 08/05/2009 12:32

OMG Hever, so many congratulations to you and your DP!!! Our first (confirmed) baby on this thread!!

Chloe, what a beautiful name!! Any chance you will put some pics up (you know - when you get five minutes)!! How is the feeding going? What did you opt for, breast or bottle?

Thanks so much for the reassurance about the epidural. My MW said that they would much rather give it to me before I'm in any pain as it's easier to keep you still - so hopefully they'll do the same as they did with you!!

A girl - I'm so thrilled for you!!! Jelly is kicking around in delight!! What a wonderful healthy size Chloe is aswell.

Pop in and out when you get a spare minute - I know you must be manically busy!!

Hope you and DP are doing Ok and you are healing. Lots of nice baths for you!!

Send loads of love and kisses to all three of you!!

Pistachio,

Sorry I didn't reply to your post hun!! PMSL about your boss finding you at your desk with a post-it note stuck to your forehead!!

I'm so glad about your exams - I hate studying and have vowed never to do any again!!

Jelly seems to be in a good pattern of wriggling now. It seems to be after lunch for a good couple of hours that she goes mental and then again in the evening. So as it's now a pattern, I'm not worried. She will probably slow down over the next couple of weeks anyway as she gets too big to move, so then I'll be worrying about that instead!!

Also, really bloody irritable at the moment. Apparently this can happen from 35 weeks, but feel like I could rip someones head off!! DH tried to cuddle me in the night last night and I pushed him off me - NEVER done that before!! Even Tilly and Lana (dog and cat) are avoiding me!! Doesn't help that I can't sleep because I'm so bloody uncomfortable.

But believe me, I'm not complaining really... Just want Jelly here now.

Where's Crunchy got to? I hope everything's Ok with her...

BubbaP · 08/05/2009 15:20

Hi girls!!!

First of all massive congrats to Hever on the birth of baby Chloe (love the name)! Our first baby! Sorry you had a rough time of it, but I bet she's worth it. Would love to see some pics when you get the chance.

Dawn huge congrats to your sister to on the birth of Ewan. Hope things settle down for her and she has some help with the BFing.

Well I've had a bit of an eventful week. Had my screening for Downs on Wednesday - they just weighed me and took some bloods. And then on Thursday I had some spotting, so went to the GP who referred me straight on to the emergency gynae unit at the hospital to be checked out (because of previous MC).

Thankfully, all's fine with the baby - they did a scan and we could see the heartbeat clearly. They discovered some issue with my urine sample so that's been sent off for analysis, so I'm off sick today. So I'm waiting for the Downs result as well as the urine sample result. Keeping my fingers crossed that neither of them shows a problem.

Big hello to all our other ladies, TTCers, those with beans and those who have now met their little ones! XXXXXX

DawnAS · 08/05/2009 15:30

Hey Bubbap,

Sorry about your week - these little monkeys sure know how to worry us don't they?! Little Jelly seems to be looking for a way out at the moment - the trouble is, she keeps looking in the same place - I wish she'd try another side of my uterus as I'm sure I've bruised on the inside!!

So it wasn't a nuchal scan that they did for Downs then? Just a blood test and weighing you? Haven't heard of that before but I'm sure that's just another way of doing it.

Please try not to panic though, even if your blood result does come back with something a little odd. My Papp-A was very low which is why they gave me a high-risk result for Downs, but as you know, all was fine.

Do they think maybe the spotting was related to the urine problem? I've heard they can be linked. Glad everything was Ok with Baby Bubbap anyway. Let us know when you have any news!!

xxx

BubbaP · 08/05/2009 16:38

Thanks Dawn. Yes, it was a real worry, but so glad all seems ok with our little Bub.

Apparently different health boards offer different tests for Downs. I think the nuchal scan is more expensive and they don't offer it on the NHS in our area. So we decided to just have the blood test and then we may have a decision to make (as you did) about whether to have any subsequent tests. We'll cross that bridge if we come to it, I guess.

They didn't say whether the spotting might have been related to the urine problem. I got the impression that it wasn't, but they wanted to check it out at the lab. Will keep you posted.

Hope Jelly isn't causing you too much pain/discomfort! I can't wait for us to have some more babies on the thread. We'll need to update the list with the babies' names/birth dates/birth weights etc! Yay.

summerbird · 08/05/2009 17:01

Hever massive huge congratulations lady i am soooo happy for you and DH. Hoorah to a safe (if not eventful) delivery of baby Chloe. I love the name too. Our first thread baby

you have also reasssured me about the epidural, at least you get to control the contractions which is a bonus.

So i had my midwife appointment this morning and my babba has now turned the right way up so my quandary about the c-section is now unnecessary. The good thing is that it gave me a kick to read up a lot on c-sections so if it comes to me having an emergency one for any reason then i am clued up on it. I am relieved TBH as the masochist that i am i still wanted the 'natural birth'!

bubba i too had 'urine issues' and it turned out to be a case of a few antibiotics which cleared it, i also had a bit of thrush which they gave me a pessary for, which has also cleared. I didnt have any UTI symptoms either which was even more frustrating! Hopefully yours is a simple antibiotics issue too. Also fingers crossed for the Downs result, I too just had a blood test as they dont have Nuchal Scans in South Manchester.

Have a great weekend ladies, i am off to the MIL's this weekend for some pampering - she is great

Hi all, congrats to Hever and wecome baby Chloe!!

Been offline for a while due to technical issues but i'm back up and running now! Had my booking in appointment with the midwife this afternoon. Was all a bit scary and seemes odd that she just assumed i would be having a baby at the end of all this while i am still preparing myself for bad news in two weeks time at the scan. Came away with all the info though and have registered my interest in having a homebirth with them. They will talk more about this with me after my scan appointment. So counting down now 2 weeks and 2 days to go....

makingafamily · 11/05/2009 15:13

hi all! congratulations Hever! I can't wait to hear more about little Chloe and its lovely to hear it really is worth it even after your trauma

I'm feeling a little crappy today but that has cheered me up! I had my first scan booked for the 28th and i got a letter saturday saying they had changed it to the first of June ok so im aware it's only a few days later but my husband will be in another country and there is no way i'm going without him. I spent an hour today trying to contact the midwife, the ward snd the actual number to change the appointment and not one person i needed answered the phone so i ended up ranting about incompetence to some poor mugging who did answer! I had issues with the hospital anyway and only decided to go there as they are the only local place to do the nuchal translucency scan i also worked myself up as i needed to inform my midwife of a few things a kid in my class is off with chikenpox- i know im probably safe but it said on my forms to ring if you are in contact with it- then they dont bloody answer phones!!) I have to see my midwife monday again anyway as my blood pressure was too high and she wasnt happy with my urine (something about not eating enough or sugar levels blah blah blah) so my mother is escorting me there to makje sure im reasonable and don't hit her! (This baby is giving me serious issues lol im either crying or ready to kill somebody!- anybody else like that??

DawnAS · 12/05/2009 15:09

Oh Crunchy, the joys hey?! Sorry that your hospital is being less than helpful. How far along are you now?

I hope that your sugar levels in urine aren't indicating gestational diabetes - although if they are - at least I can offer you advice and support - being a bloody expert!! Do you know I'm up to nearly 70 units of insulin a day now!! Started on just 2 units per meal.... Crappy...

But yes, you are not alone in the mood swings arena. I didn't suffer from them TBH but I'm in the minority, most people do. I thought there was something wrong with me because I DIDN'T have them!! So don't worry, it's all those lovely hormones doing their job.

Totally get you not wanting to have your first scan without your DH being there, I wouldn't have had mine without DH either so completely understand. Just keep on calling until you eventually get through, what a bloody pain.

Other than the mood-swings, how are the rest of your PG symptoms? Everything Ok?

xxx

summerbird · 13/05/2009 17:23

hey MAF they bring the drugs with them if you want a home birth, they bring the gas and air and you get a doc to prescribe you pethidine before hand in case you need it, the only thing they dont do obviously is epidurals. How can you tell i have been to ante natal this morning i am such a swot!

all quiet chez the Summerbirds this week, DH is still convinced i am weeks off yet but i keep threatening to burst my waters this week just for a laugh (praps i should fill a condom with yicky water and burst it in the night to give him the scaredy cats!! or am i just evil

dawn you are a star dealing with this insulin, for someone who was thrown into it and left to get on with it you have done brilliantly! not long now hun

crunchy i hope you are feeling better today and have sorted the hospital out, i agree with dawn that i would have been gutted if DH wasnt with me at the scan, he would have been too, surely the hosp must understand that.

aww fairy i can understand your anxiety but you are having a baby hun, it is perfectly natural to have concerns but we are all sure you are gonna be fine

hever how is your likkle bundle of joy? Hope you get to post some piccies on here soon as we are all dying to see our first thread baby

masses of babydust for all **

Hi all- Dawn I will be coming to you for all sorts of advice if that does happen LOL- i am still getting lots of nausea but am only actually sick some days- i can't find a pattern so i guess its just pot luck! lol!

Anyway, i moaned and moaned and lied a little (I told them i wouldn't be in the country so only a small lie!) but i've got my scan next Thursday miraculous how they always find 'just one appointment' isn't it?? I can't believe we have our first baby and two more joining us soon- it seems to have gone so quickly! you all need to look at this site:

www.showermybaby.co.uk

i used it for my sister in laws baby shower and the stuff was brilliant (there are soo many cute things though!!)
