do Hollywood stars buy in their eggs?

I'm always reading about the latest celebrity who has given birth aged 40-something.

Given that this isn't that easy in the general population, why is it no trouble for them? Do they not only possess flawless skins, perfect figures (no diets, exercise required) but also have super-healthy long-lasting eggs?

Just wondered.

I've often wondered this too. Along with the amount of celebs that have twins.

fircone · 03/04/2009 10:36

Yes, they all have twins, don't they? And more particularly, a girl and a boy twin.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think Gina Davis had boy and girl twins.

At the age of 48.

Holly Hunter did, too, at 47.

Could happen naturally with your own eggs and be healthy, sure.

But the odds certainly are that it won't/hasn't.

ivf

fircone · 03/04/2009 10:46

well, obviously it's ivf, but methinks they're using specially-selected eggs from some super student at Stanford.

Even with IVF, let's face it, when you're 45+, your egg quality just isn't as good.

Sure, like I said, you do see spontaneous conceptions with own eggs, my grandmother had a surprise baby, her 6th, at 47.

But that's not the norm.

Yes it's a bit suspicious, isn't it? The woman from Desperate Housewives, Julia Roberts, J Lo and Nicole Kidman all spring to mind.

muffle · 03/04/2009 10:59

Yes I'm sure there must be a good proportion of IVF, possibly egg donors, sex selection etc to get the results that they do. No reason why they shouldn't but it can you make you feel a bit inadequate when you are TTC naturally at 40ish.

I've wondered about this. Mainly because I wish they'd be open about it, or at least the IVF part, as it just reinforces this notion that babies arrive no effort (just like their flawless skin/perfect figures etc).

It's why I like Courtney Cox-Arquette for being honest about the IVF that gave them their daughter, and the struggle to conceive a second baby. Check out this link for a list of celebs who've used IVF/surrogates/assisted conception. It's not totally up to date but still makes interesting reading (especially the ones who's publicists deny it!)

in real life i feel defensive about how my daughter came to be, maybe they do too? especially with the way, for example that it is always TomCruise & Nicoles adopted children.... etc
Horribe, so i expect they follow the no comment route for that reason
Its nothing to be ashamed of, its to be joyous about and proud of but its not nice to be the subject of gossip - some of it malicious
My husband was told all about us when he had his haircut once, apparently he knocked up my best friend and she didnt want the baby so gave it to us.....
