if today is day 1, when would you expect day 21 to be? stupid question, I know

Rang clinic today to get my day 21 appointment booked for IVF.

It's day 1 of my cycle today, so I was expecting to be told my appointment would be on day 21 i.e. Wed 22nd April.

The receptionist insisted that day 21 would be three weeks today, i.e. Thurs 23rd April. When I queried it, saying I've never counted my cycle in that way before, she tried to explain to me by telling me that there are 7 days in a week, FFS.

I told her I still didn't get it so she went to check with someone. She came back airily saying it doesn't matter anyway as it's not an "exact science" and gave me an appointment on Wed.

Now I realise this is daft and I'm probably overthinking it but it IS important to get the date right, isn't it? And I AM right in how I've counted...am I?

Can't believe I've irritated them already - got a long road ahead!

Sounds like the receptionist made a mistake!

One day either way is not going to make much difference (I remember one of my Day 21's falling on a Sunday) so don't worry about it.

Good luck with the IVF - is this your first cycle? Our DS is IVF .

It is the 22nd. She's counting today as day 0 and then adding 21 days which would actually mean that it would be day 22.

oh god thank you - yes this will be first cycle - and only cycle since we are using donor sperm and have only one vial! Am just really conscious that I want to get everything right.

yes, that's what I thought - there's a difference between "in 21 days' time" and "on day 21". But if it doesn't really matter much then I can stop worrying anyway!

You're right.

Today is day 1. So three weeks from today wil be 1 + (3 weeks x 7 days in a week) so day 22. Day 21 is on a Wednesday.
