My periods are very irregular, anything from 35 to 45 days. I have cysts on my ovaries so am not ovulating, i thought after having a baby this would correct itself, but unfortunately it hasnt

I am 31, i am a smoker, non vegetarian, weigh nearly 8stone
dh is 32, non smoker, non vegetarian, his sperms are not extremly high in numbers but sufficient enough

iui explained

madigan, im so sorry i wasnt around to answer your question, i had a bad headache today and been in bed all day

definitly start counting from 1st day of insemination and not when your cycle usually is, because you ovulated later this month (like i always have on all my cycles), testing today or tomorrow may give you a false negative.

cyclogest tends to make cycles longer, however in my experience, on both cycles when i hadnt conceived, af showed up on day 13 after insemination rather than on the 14th day.

i got my fingers crossed for you hun, and i hope this month is the month, so good luck, only 1 day to go (by the time you read this)

skbf, good luck to you too, cramping could be a good sign perhaps, then again, i didnt get any cramping until day af was supposed to be due, funnily enough, cramping literally started half hour after putting phone down to fertility clinic to get my pregnancy results hmm

madigan, re reading your message about your cycle, i gather that you didnt ovulate any later but that they did the insemination later is that right?

either way, i would say that you should definitly test on day 14 after insemination becuase if you are pregnant then it will give your pregnancy hormones a chance to kick in so when you test it will show the positive hopefully....good luck xx

hi bubbly
thanks for your advice. sorry you were feeling poorly yesterday - hope you are feeling better today?

Guess I must have ovulated later this month, and that is why insem was later (day 15 of cycle, as opposed to day 13 last time). Today is day 28.

No AF yet. Sore boobs (for the past 4-5 days) - but I usually get that before AF anyway, although they haven't been as sore today and yesterday, for some reason.

Will not test tomorrow, because I can't face a BFN and am going to have a busy day, without DH or any friends for support. If AF still does not arrive, will test on Thursday - then I have less to do, and can have a good old mope if it is BFN .... but fingers crossed for me this month!!!!!!!!

Madigan · 25/04/2006 08:39

hi SKBF -
good luck for tests this afternoon, let us know how you get on????

bubbly1973 · 25/04/2006 08:47

madigan, sounds very promising, i got my fingers crossed for you, i know everyone is different but i had slight sore boobs a few days before and they went a day or so before af was due, this was on the successful cycle.

i feel much better thanks by the way.

good luck hun xxx

madigan, what day did you have the hcg injection?

Bella23 · 25/04/2006 09:34

Madigan - sending over all my positive vibes and praying that Thursday is your day xx

Madigan · 25/04/2006 11:36

bella - lovely to hear from you. hope you are keeping well.
bubbly, my HCG injection was at 10pm on Monday 10 April. Insem was then at 1pm on Wednesday 12 April.

Madigan · 25/04/2006 15:26

Bubbly
am finding it v difficult to concentrate today ... wonder why?
thing is that I can't really get hopes up, even though AF is 2 days late, because AF came precisely 2 weeks after last insem, (which would be tomorrow, on this cycle).
am slightly tempted to go and buy a test and get it over with, but have resisted the urge so far

bubbly1973 · 25/04/2006 19:13

madigan, i personally wouldnt count af as being 2 days late by going by your other cycles,...you need to count from when ovulation would have taken place or insemination which wouldnt be till tomorrow, so please try not to think of it as being late because that will just play on your mind to the'am i or arent i pregnant, im late'

its 2weeks tomorrow (wednesday) since you had insemination day, so not long, take a test on 1st morning pee and get it over and done with, i know you want to Wink

and good luck i will have my fingers crossed for you

Hi there
well I just tested and it was BFN. am absolutely gutted. no sign of AF, and it doesn't feel like AF on its way. So had managed to convince myself that I was pg, and am so disappointed.
the only thing is that I tested this afternoon, not in the morning, and only about 21/2 hrs after I had last been for a pee. Is there is a chance that I might get a different result if I tested in the morning? or am I totally clutching at straws (I think the answer to that is yes - because clearblue digital says that you can test at any time of day).

errr. not sure why it has posted 3 times - that was unintentional!

bubbly1973 · 26/04/2006 21:07

oh madigan Sad

am totally gutted for you and know exactly how you are feeling at the moment...and to be honest, i had a sneaky feeling it had worked for you this time around Sad

i know what its like to have that tiny bit of hope which will last till af comes along, then anger takes over for letting yourself have hope...its awful, but please i hope you dont give up, maybe 3rd time lucky like me,

thinking of you hun

Madigan I have followed this thread closely but not posted before. I too held my breath when looking to see your result. I am so sorry it is not the result you are hoping for and that you stay strong and continue on.

Madigan · 27/04/2006 06:37

Hi bubbly -
and thank you for your very kind message mymama - so sweet of you.
Well, cried all night last night, and still feel miserable this morning - and yes, of course I tested again this morning and another BFN. Still no AF, but have not got my hopes up. I reckon the cyclogest has caused my cycle to be longer this month.
I feel totally miserable and pretty desparate, to be honest. I don't know what to do next. Whether to try IUI for a 3rd time, or whether to go for IVF (which I have been absolutely dreading). Also - don't know whether to have a month "off" now, or whether should just get on with another IUI cycle.
At the back of my mind is the constant worry that I am going to be 35 in 6 months time, and all the statistics show that after 35 the chances of conceiving decrease. I just can't believe that it is nearly May 2006, and we have been ttc since Jan 04. Nearly 2.5 years. I am just sick of it. Sorry about rant - but feeling v sorry for myself today.

bubbly1973 · 27/04/2006 09:31

madigan, your entitled to feel sorry for yourself, it helps get through the emotions that your going through, i feel sorry for you

its up to you what you do and how you feel mentally and physically but personally id try the 3rd go, then if that dont work think about alternative treatments.

my clinic always recommended 3 go's, there must be a reason why it wasnt 4 or 5 or 6 etc...but i have heard of ladies who have got pregnant on there 5,6,7 etc...

...you do have to draw a line to how many go's you have, so if you feel 2 are enough then perhaps you know yourself best, ivf is an expensive route to go through, are you going to pay or are you on the nhs?

if you do decide to go ahead with 3rd iui, give this month a rest so when af comes, dont get intough with clinic, but when next af comes, go for it....this disheartening feeling wont last long, it will help when af appears so you can put a lid on it and move on and try for next time, but i know its hard to keep your spirit up

thinking of you and wish i could give you a big hug!!

Madigan - sorry to hear that you have a BFN. Am really upset that this time isn't your timeSad

I think Bubble is offering some sensible advice, I think you need to give it another go. Personally if it was me I would go again this next month and then you've given it your best shot and if it fails again you can consider moving on to IVF.

I know its hard hon but hopefully you will find the strength to carry on down this very long fertility road. Am so willing you on your way xx

Madigan · 27/04/2006 11:39

Hi bubbly and bella
Thanks for your advice. I think I will give IUI another go. I am going to speak to a consultant on the phone today - and ask whether I should go for it straight away or have a month's break. but Bubbly - I think your advice is right, that I should have a month's break.
Bella - am going to do acupuncture this month, and see how that goes - I know it helped you.
Then I will go for IVF. will be paying privately. but really really hope we don't have to go down that route - although it is looking increasingly likely.
wondering when to expect AF to arrive - still no sign, and I have been like clockwork the last 6 months or so. Bubbly - did Cyclogest affect your cycle, and if so - by how many days?

Madigan · 27/04/2006 12:01

bella -
what was the name/number of your acupuncturist again? have lost his details

bubbly1973 · 27/04/2006 12:05

madigan, im so glad you arent giving up and will give iui another go, at least then you wont look back and wonder 'if only'

cyclogest made my af appear 1 day earlier than it should have, however, my very close friend who had iui done who is usually like clockwork was 4days late when she had cyclogest, even though it was a negative she was hoping it was a mistake when af didnt arrive, but unfortunatly she did rear her ugly head 4 days later Sad

i hope today you are feeling a bit better hun
