I go for egg collection on Thursday. Excited and scared of failure.

Is anyone currently going through this?

8 months doesn't sound too bad a wait but if going private is a matter of wks rather than months then might go for that option. if have to go down ivf route then want to get started asap.

Thanks for finding out about white witch, not to worry, hope shes ok soon

bubbly1973 · 01/05/2005 19:45

flumpette, how are you feeling today? thinking of you, and just wondering how things are going

one more week to go...fingers crossed xxx

Flumpette · 01/05/2005 20:45

Hi Bubbly. Thanks for asking. Wouldn't it be so much easier just to make love! Well I'm really hormonal and have had stomach cramps again today but no spotting.

Had a lovely day with all my family ie. parents, sisters etc. and all the children who are adorable, so that cheered me up.

I'm already planning to test 14 days to the hour!!! The suspense is punishing.

How are you?

bubbly1973 · 01/05/2005 20:57

flumpette, i always have it in my head that when feeling any sort of cramps whilst doing the treatment is a good sign, means somethings happening down there like the embroy embedding deep within!!

im fine thanks for asking, my turn for the 2ww soon, so as you are going through it right now i am really sympathising with you and know how long it can be..every twinge makes you wonder

as for sex...hmmm dont you find you want it more when you cant have it

did you feel twinges the last time you did the treatment...do you feel exactly like you did the last time?

i know every pregnancy is different, but sometimes cant help comparing to the last

bubbly1973 · 01/05/2005 20:57

flumpette, do you take your temperature every morning?

Flumpette · 02/05/2005 19:39

Hi. No, I used to chart before the laporoscopy and I really understood what my body was doing, so I just knew there was a deeper problem because my chart showed normal temps. etc. I hadn't even thought of taking my temperature throughout IVF cycle and to be honest I'm not sure I'd know if the cyclogest etc. was changing the reading.

On the 1st cycle I did feel twinges and of course worried that AF was on her way but as you say it must have been the embryos embedding.

Trouble is having read about others it appears that one can get symptoms that look positive only to find a BFN!

I haven't had any spotting so far and last time I had a tiny tiny bit on day 9 and of course now I know it must have been implantation.

How are you feeling? Do you find it's easier emotionally before the 2ww?

bubbly1973 · 02/05/2005 19:47

flumpette, what day are you on after the eggs were put back in...did you have them put in 2 weeks saturday so today makes you day 9?

emotionally i feel fine, but i do know it hits me very very hard when im waiting after the insemination, and i have to be honest, this time round is worse because i am half expecting it to work as it did the first time around, and i know i will fall with a big hard thud if its negative

but in a way i know i have my ds so i know things could be much much worse where i all my treatments could have been negative and we would be childless
very mixed emotions, really, but im bottling it up and trying not to think too much about it all

how do you feel?

Flumpette · 02/05/2005 20:15

Bubbly. You and I are in the same position as our 1st cycle brought us our beautiful boy (is DS a boy and what does DS stand for?)

I too will fall hard if it doesn't work but there is no worse feeling than being childless so I thank God for our little boy.

My stomach looks like I'm pregnant as it has taken on that shape and today I went to a May Day fete and had to hide it as I didn't want locals to ask if I am expecting!

I think I may be confused. I have counted day 1 as the ET day and so I was going to test around the same time of day 14 days later, ie. ET on 23rd April and test on 6th May. Is that right as my clinic didn't elaborate on this.

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 02/05/2005 20:43

ds means dear son (dd means dear daughter)

i assume ET is egg transfer?

if so, then i would say 14 days from then is when you test, so yes you are right.

as for the stomach getting bigger, i have to be honest, when i was trying naturally, and if af (aunt flo-period) didnt arrive when i assumed it would, my stomach would miracously get bigger..weird but true

so if i thought i was pregnant, my stomach would grow, how strange is that!!!

i am so hoping you are pregnant, praying for you since your friend the white witch is busy

did you get sore boobs on your first treatment (i know the pessaries can cause this) and do you feel weepy? did you feel weepy on the last go?

arrrgggh the suspense is killing me, i hate to think what you must be going through

Flumpette · 03/05/2005 09:55

Hi. Thanks for explaining abbreviations. DS fast asleep right now so I came straight to PC to check the site. It's a lifeline and really helps.

Last time I was really slim and the tummy was very obvious once the cyclogest took hold and this time I hadn't lost all my weight from pregnancy but the difference is huge and I do look pregnant. Let's just hope I am!

That's amazing though that your tummy does that. Just shows how powerful we are!

The white witch should have done a spell for me now but I didn't want to contact her to help others because she is going through a tough time herself.

I have been grumpy rather than tearful and snappy. Poor dh (dear husband, see I'm getting the hang of it).

Glad I can test on Friday 6th May. Thanks for confirming. I probably would have tested anyway and again on Saturday morning.

Count down.

How are you today?

OP posts:
bubbly1973 · 03/05/2005 10:58

flumpette, another day over hun...not long now and you will soon know although right now a day seems like a week doesnt it!!

im feeling okay, anxious and hoping that all is going well with my follicles...will soon find out, my appt is at 2.15 so not long for me

im glad the white witch managed to help you, i know you must be feeling heaps better for this

take care...feeling any different today?

Flumpette · 03/05/2005 18:14

Hi Bubbly

I called the clinic to ask what happens if I test 3 days before and they said if positive, then I'm pregnant and if negative then it could be a false reading.

So, dh walked in and we tested.

BFP!!!!!!!!! Clear Blue test and horizontal line of cross bold but vertical line feinter. Definitely there though.

Whooping around kitchen with joy.

Need reassurance as a little nervous having tested early.

So, today I feel GREAT!!!!!!

Flumpette · 03/05/2005 19:36

Pruni and Bubbly.

Thank you for your kind words. I've just read about a lady who did a test 11 dpt on the fertility friends website and the moderator confirmed that yep, it will be a definite at this stage.

DH smiling big time as he was so anxious too.

Can't believe it. Sooooooo lucky.

Bubbly - praying for your follicles to grow nicely and for your imminent cycle Pruni.

Will keep you posted.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting on your thread (I'm not sure of the etiquette). Have not posted before but have been following what's been going on so firstly, congratulations flumpette! I'm really pleased for you and it's so reassuring when this works for people.

This thread's been really useful as I am on day 4 of 2ww. You guys seem really knowledgable and I need some help. I just wanted to know when I might get my period if this doesn't work? Could it be before day 14? Also, could it be late?I'm not trying to be negative but any slight twinge means that I think it's coming.

Thanks in advance.

Cll · 03/05/2005 21:52

Sorry also to hijack - I'm thrilled for you flumpette - huge congrats - But I know IVF regulars may check here and need some advice/sympathy/hope? Just spoke with my sister who was 15 days post transfer today and her test is negative...it's her 4th IVF attempt (chemical preg on 3rd attempt) she's 42 and doing it with donor sperm ie on her own. I've been with her to all appointments and was just so sure it would be our turn this time. Feel devastated for her but don't know whether to persuade her to do another test with her first wee tomorrow as she's only had brown discharge so far no fresh blood and did test around 8.30pm. Would you get a false neg 15 days pt or am I, as one Ivf friend said, getting addicted to the hope? She's convinced it's over for this time, I want her to take the cyclogest till she's sure...or should I just let her be?

I just so want to be an auntie and for her to have a baby...sorry again to add a sombre thought to such a happy and hopeful thread. Sending baby dust everyone's way

wendy11 · 04/05/2005 14:18

Flumpette

CONGRATULATIONS - I am delighted for you and your DH. Take care of yourself and your precious cargo. You have given me hope for my IVF cycle.

Cll · 04/05/2005 17:09

Hi chiplet - my understanding is it would come 14 days after egg transfer. Problem with period like twinges is that v early stage pregnancy feels much the same as that feeling you get before your period - not that helpful eh?

We were told by Lister that a pregnancy test could be done at day 11, but that very occasionally you could get a false positive because of drug they give you (HCG?) to stimulate ovulation. They recommended testing on day 14. Talking to another doc friend today re my sister's problem, they said cyclogest could well be delaying period so period might not come and you still might not be pregnant. Sorry to be so negative. The only sure way to find out if you're pregnant is an hcg blood test ( I think they can do this from about day 12) followed 48 hours by another one. If first levels are over a certain amount (5? 25? sorry can't remember) you are/have been pregnant. Numbers should double in 48 hours if preg progressing well, so you need a follow up blood test. My sister had a chemical pregnancy last August which meant she was pregnant, but it didn't progress so when she went back for her second blood test the levels were falling rather than rising.
Sorry again to be talking negative stuff, but I really think someone at the clinic should explain all this when you start the 2ww - and noone does!

Wishing everyone success.

Cll · 04/05/2005 17:14

Flumpette just re read my message and while it answers chiplet's question it sounds a bit down and alarmist! False positives are very very rare - almost unheard of - so please don't let my message freak you in any way - you are pregnant! Congrats and lots of love and luck for the pregnancy!

chiplet · 04/05/2005 19:44

Cll - thanks for your help. Not sure I understand all that but at least it might make me relax a bit about the twinges. It's my first IVF cycle after 4 yrs trying.

Sorry to hear about your sister. That must be terrible for her. Is she going to try again?

Flumpette · 04/05/2005 20:09

Thank you for your Congratulations. I had called the Lister clinic myself before I tested and the nurse told me that if one tested day 11, 12 or 13 and got a positive, then it was definitely a positive and if one got a negative, then it might be a false negative, as levels of HCG could be low testing so early.

It's very scary, but I know that there is such a thing as a chemical pregnancy and I can't imagine how awful it must be to get that far to find out that there is no baby. Just heartbreaking.

I didn't have a blood test for my first cycle back in 2003. I did a HPT which was a BFP and then 14 days later had a scan and was very fortunate to see a heartbeat. DS 14 months now. So, I guess I'll test again on day 14 and then wait for a scan. The clinic haven't given me a hard time about not having blood tests. In fact this time they didn't mention it, they said test on day 14. (Is that odd do you think?)

I still have period like cramps and I did last time and because I didn't expect them it scared me as I assumed it must be my period. I knew this time that it could be cyclogest or my period or a pregnancy. What a lottery!

The Lister aren't that hot on explanations and I've found this site invaluable. Having said that they must have to be so careful because we all have such different symptoms, so really they can't say too much. I've also read enough sites to know that some people have pregnancy symptoms are it's negative and vice versa.

My heart goes out to your sister Cll and I hope her day will come.

Chiplet. Good Luck over the coming days and I hope that you find this site as helpful as I have.

Sprinkling baby dust at this very moment for you all. x

chiplet · 04/05/2005 21:02

Flumpette - thanks for the extra info. It's the period-liek cramps that really got me. Those plus the spots and over-tiredness which just seem like a normal period. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Congratulations again, you must be so pleased. Hope all goes well for you.

Cll · 05/05/2005 11:38

She says she might try again in September, but we need to save another £7000 which is no mean feat. She had other nutrition and acupuncture therapies at Zita West's clinic and all organic food etc etc, plus ICSI and assisted hatching so it all adds up. Worth it if you get a baby. Nightmare if you don't.
Keep wanting her to do another test before stopping cyclogest, but don't want to push it.

Flumpette · 05/05/2005 12:05

Thanks. IVF is very tiring Chiplet so I hope that is what it is and doesn't the emotional rollercoaster make one tired too?

Cll - as you say the money means nothing if it works. Do the clinic think it's worth doing another test?
