twins... just thought id ask

My dh and I have been thinking about how high the chances are of having twins as we're ttc. I am a twin myself and his mum was a twin too. Does this mean we have a really high chance of having them or the same chances as everyone else. It would be good to know. Thanks! Soo many questions and dont want to sound silly!

If you have non-id twins in the family (your side) you may have inherited a tendency to double ovulate - hence twins. It is more likely as you get older too.

As for id twins - they are random and you are no more likely to have them than anyone else.

well you could still get non id (or even id ) but sounds like you are no more likely than anyone else.

I have id boy by the way (not twins at all in the near family on either side).

Hi Shirley - your a twin too then are you? So am I also identical but with non-idents running on my Mum's side and MIL is also a non-ident - i don't even want to calculate the odds! thought of having twins terrify's me

Ooh how bizarre i dont know of many twins! Yup im the oldest though (6 whole massive long minutes!!!) DH said hed be delighted if we conceived twins it would be a ready made family and not have to go through labour again hmmm dont know if i want to even think about carrying 2 babies!

DTS is 30 minutes older than me - really really feel sorry for my Mum with that length of time!

Mum said she only wanted 2 as well and was quite happy with us - they only got 2 weeks notice - as we arrived 2 months early after a dodgy scan where the Dr said he was mistaken and it was only 1 heartbeat.....

ooh gosh so she thought there was just 1 of you I'd hate for that to happen all that shopping for extra bits.

twins are very expensive!
