I posted this on the pregnancy boards this morning, but got no response at all, so am trying here instead.....

My friend has recently gone through her first round of IVF using (previously frozen) sperm from her partner who died last year. She had 3 embryos implanted a few weeks ago but found out this morning that it wasn't successful. She is gutted and feels that although she is prepared to try once more, if it hasn't worked the first time, it's bound not to work the second; I'm sure this isn't the case and was wondering if anyone out there had any stories of successful IVF after unsuccessful that I could let her know about?

She really needs a bit of positivity in her life, she's feeling devastated at the moment...

Hi my friend had twins on her third round of ivf. Another had a DS on her 9th go. And another had twins on her first attempt. Good luck to your friend, sounds like she has had a tough time lately.

hi thought share my story i had my 1st dd by ivf 5 years ago it was my 1st course so that was fab but when it came to ttc a sibling it was a different story 1st we used frozen embryos but that didnt work, then we had a fresh cycle 2 embryos put back, got positive result but sadly no heartbeat at scan, had another fresh cycle a year later but again negative test, then we used our frozen embryos from previous cycles had 2 put back and at last we got our positive result my dd2 was born 2 wks ago!! I was determined to not give up I know thats not the case for alot of women and it was a hard time emotionally and financially but she was sooo worth it all.hope this helps.

Your friend could try some hypnotherapy before she embarks on another round of IVF. I am a registered hypnotherapist and recently worked with a girl whos first round of IVF failed. She had found the whole experience unpleasant and a bit painful at times and the failure was a great disapointment. The greatest risk to failing with IVF is the contraction of the uterus during implantation which expels the embryos by using hypnotherapy a deeply relaxed state can be induced during this process which helps to increase the chances of sucess. There is more to it than that but that is a brief outline.
My client underwent a second round of IVF and is now successfully pregnant with twins. It's worth a try it won't do any harm and more importanty it might do some good!
