dd2 is 5 in the next few weeks so i have been on the pill solidly (is that a word?) for the best part of 5 years.

dh and i have finally decided that now would be the best time (if there is such a thing) to go for dc3.

my last period started on saturday the 21st of feb so dh and i have been like rabbits all over the weekend

am i right in thinking that this was the most likly time to conceive?

also after so long on the pill is there a higher chance it could take months to actaully get anywhere?

have been pregnant 3 times before (lost the middle baby) but 2 of these pregnancies were in the first month of trying.

put your dates in and this should give a rough idea of your most fertile days.

As for the pill, I can't comment tbh but I am sure someone will be able to.

Good luck

I was on the pill for 10 yrs; it took me 6mths to have a period when I came off it, but I then got pregnant after the second period I had. (Not sure if that sentence works grammatically?) Not sure when the best time to conceive is (other than roughly in the middle of your cycle).

Good luck

Hi kerryk

I too have just come off the pill and had my last period on 22 Feb. I'm wondering if it will take me a while for my body to settle down after being on Yasmin for 3 years but I really hope not. I have brought some Agnus Castus as that's supposed to sort things out once you have come off the pill.

Good luck, hope you aren't trying for long.

thanks so much for the replies

have tried working out my fertile day and it seems to be from last wed till today!

hopefully it wont take long to happen because i am such a worrier and dont want to get cold feet again. think the chances of it happening again in the first month must be pretty low though.

have never heard of agnus castus before, will read up on that.

The pill leaves your system very quickly after taking the last tablet.

Do not focus on when your "fertile day" is. Forget that idea completely and make love when you both feel like it (two or three times a week throughout the cycle is fine). Ovulation is not an exact science and it can happen earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

It is not a good idea to self medicate with Agnus Castus because it can make any underlying hormonal imbalance worse. If you did want to try it you are better off seeking the advice of a properly qualified medical herbalist.

i did wonder about the accurecy of my fertile time as i have been on the pill so have no idea what my 'normal' cycle should be.

Hi, just to say that I got pg first time round after coming off the pill, I have heard (unscientific and unsubstantiated I add) claims that some are very fertile immediately after coming off the pill, as your homones kick in with a vengeance or something but it was right for me! so make the most of it.

Good luck and hope you don't have to wait too long

kerryk · 09/03/2009 17:36

thank you littlelady

that would be so fantastic if it happened.

Don't know about coming off the pill, and always thought it was middle of cycle, but then read somewhere 10 days before period is due

But agree with atila don't think about it,

and just keep at it like rabbits

I like you got pg all three times after 1 month of saying sure we will just see what happens

good luck, hope to see a BFP thread from you soon

Your natural cycle will return in around four to six weeks after stopping the pill.

Echo the above about trying not to think about it too much, just keep shagging!! You'll probably feel like it more when you are ovulating anyway. That's Mother Nature for you!

A rough guide to when ovulation occurs is 12-16 days before your period comes, on average about two weeks. But remember every woman is different. Another clue is the presence of highly fertile cervical mucus which looks like raw egg white, which will become more abundant and watery as you approach ovulation.

Good luck and hope you get pregnant soon, or at least have fun in the process

Came off the pill in April last year and had my next period the following month.

We started TTC in June and got PG in the first month, but then MCd on 1st August. Was PG again by Mid-September. Now 27 weeks with my first child.

I think everyone is different, so if you're not quite ready, don't bank on your pill taking a while to get out of your system because mine didn't and I'd been on it for 16 years non-stop!!

Good Luck!!

thanks dawn

I had no period for 6 months after comming off the pill. It was over a year before they were regular.

Went to the doc about 5 months after comming off the pill who basically said that I was a time waster and didnt I know that a delayed return in fertility was a common side effect and to come back once it had been a year if I hadnt had a period by then.

I ovulate at at least day 20 (and dont have long cycles) so everyone is different. The old school textbooks say day 11-14 in a 28th day cycle but its now known that that is often not the case. Some people OV as early as day 8

I have heard (not from any sort of reliable source though) that whilst you are more likely to get pregnant straight away after MC or comming off the pill, the quality of the pregnancy is lower so more likely to MC. Which is why (I've heard) that its best to wait till after you've had a period. But that is just hear-say I think!

SalBySea · 10/03/2009 18:18

p.s. I was on the combined pill. One of the benefits given for the PO pill is that it doesnt have a possible delayed return of fertility like the combined one
