hi my baby is now 8m old abit of a long story but me & my now hubby had a 6m split bk in march 07 in this time i started a new relation ship which lasted till 14th sept of that yr. me & my now hubby got bk together on the 9th oct 07. I had a period (i hope was 1) on the 2nd oct. End of oct i found out i was pregnant i had a early scan at 5wks which said i had a 5wk ongoing pregnancy i had another early scan at 8wks which dates matched so did my 12wk & 20 wk scans. thing is baby was 3wks early & weighed in at 9lb the midwife said oh are you sure your dates where right i said yes by the scans. the baby was due by my scans & period date as the 9th july 08. But my baby doesnt look like me husband or the other kids we have together the baby is the double of my eldest. can the hospital get all the scan dates wrong? my now hubby was miffed by me being 4wks gone when i found out but we had only been bk together 2 wks i explained that it is taken from the first day of the period. He hasnt said anything but i'm worried that the hospital got it wrong what do you think please help. Also forgot to mention that at 37wks a day b4 i went into labour i was measuring term when the midwife done the fundal height check.

IME, it's easy to tell a 5 week embryo from a 7 week embryo. Having a scan that early on, and having 8 week and 12 week scan, seems like your original dates were correct.

Having a baby at 37 weeks is perfectly normal as well. Just the same as babies who are born at 41+ weeks, doesn't mean that the baby was conceived earlier/later.

The fundal height check doesn't really mean too much either as I only measured 34 weeks right until the end of my pregnancy.

I take it you're concerned that he's not the father? Would he consider a DNA test? Would it make any difference to the way he feels about the baby?

Earlier scan dates are more accurate than later estimates - so as the hospital did 5, 8 and 12 week scans and were happy with giving you a due-date from them, and didn't keep changing their minds over it, I'd be pretty sure they are right.

But it's such a big issue, are you ever going to be happy with that 'balance of probabilities' answer? Or do you need the certainty of a DNA test?

A dna is out of the question as he has never mentioned it if i said something he will think i had doubts.
