Never-ending LH surge!

I've got a + line on the opk stick for the 5th day running. What does it mean? Have I got ANY hope of conceiving on a cycle like this? Have done loads of bd'ing but that won't do any good if i don't actually ov. After feeling all optimistic that i was ov'ing now i just think my ageing eggs can't hack it and do what they're supposed to.

Sorry to be so gloomy i just have a sneaky suspicion something's not right.

Multiple positive opk test results may be indicative of there being too much LH (luteinising hormone) in the bloodstream compared to FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). This can be seen with a hormonal imbalance called polycystic ovaries.

Are your periods also irregular in nature - if so you should seek medical advice sooner rather than later. How long have you been ttc?.

Would refrain from using the OPK's forthwith; they are not very helpful anyway if the menstrual cycle is at all irregular in nature.

I agree that you may be producing more LH than is average (but not necessarily more than is normal iyswim).

I get my tests from here and they do different levels of test, depending on how much LH you tend to produce.

It might just be an odd cycle, if it happens over several cycles it might be worth talking to your GP.

Worth mentioning that the other possible cause of multiple/prolonged positive LH results is actually being pregnant. HCG interacts with the tests and can cause a positive result.

Just worth thinking about.

Thanks for that Attila, funtime & mags. I had LH & FSH tested and they were normal. Periods totally regular and always a 27 or 28 day cycle. Also internal scan of ovaries and uterus showed nothing at all abnormal.

Will have to investigate further...Having a day 21 test done, hopefully that will tell me if did actually ov.

TT - I used to get this every few months while ttc (I was opk'ing and charting/temping for over 2years). All my blood tests (day 21/FSH/LH etc) always came back fine and I had them 3 times.... I did some google research and found that it was possibly explained by your body "gearing up" to ov, but then not actually releasing an egg so you don't ov and then it does it all again a couple of days later or whatever. I once had 10 days of LH surge in a row on opks. I know opks aren't always that accurate either.

Good you're getting your cd21 bloods checked anyway, good idea.

p.s. I went on to conceive twice naturally and have two lovely dds so the weird opk results didn't mean a problem for me in case you are worrying.

Thanks Bella, so did you actually conceive while you were getting these 10 day surges?
