Does anyone know anything about the affect of low progesterone levels on fertility???

Evening ladies

I have just been looking on the net (dangerous I know!) as I have been trying to find out what is happening in my body.

I had a MC in July 08 at 7 weeks, and since then I have noticed that I have brown spotting for about 4 days before my period comes properly. Also in the past 2 cycles I have had brown blood tinged CM at random times in the cycle (not linked to ovulation), and my periods seem to be getting longer (currently on CD17 and no positive ovulation test yet - normally happens CD14).

Does anyone think that I have low progesterone levels? Could that be what caused my MC? Is there anything I can do?

After the MC I never dreamt that my angels due date would come and I still wouldnt be pregnant

Any advice would be greatly appreciated xx

So sorry to hear your story, I lost a baby too and know how hard it is to get back on your feet.

It sounds to me like you are doing a good job of noticing things about your cycle which could be to blame, do you take your waking temperature? how many days do you typically have between ovulation and your period arriving? Low progestrone levels could be a possibility.

I have recently dicovered that I have PCOS (on top of a blood clotting disorder which could well have been the reason for my loss) and I was given progestrone to take for the first 10 weeks of this pregnancy (I'm 25 weeks with my 2nd baby since my loss)

It may be worth your while getting a copy of Toni Weschler's book "Taking Charge of your Fertility". I found it fabulous and it really helped me to find ways to make my body more susceptible to getting pregnant as well as to pick up on potential issues.

Wishing you lots of luck

Morning MrsMcJnr

Thanks for your reply and congrats on your pregnancy!!

I havent been taking my temperature, I must read up on that and find out what to do.

Between ovulation and spotting is normally 12 days and then another 4 days before AF, but as I have ovulated so late this month (finally got a positive ovulation test this morning CD18) I am not sure what will happen. I have been taking Evening Primrose Oil to try regulate things but I think that is what has caused the brown blood tinged CM so I am not sure if it is making things worse.....

Hi WarmSeaBreeze,

Am very sorry to read about your miscarriage. I hope you received and continue to receive support. The Miscarriage Association is very good, would recommend you speak with them. The causes of miscarriage are many; its certainly not due to something you did or did not do.

Would seek medical advice re the spotting. Any bleeding between periods should be investigated further to ascertain the cause.

If the nature of your periods has changed as well this is another good reason to seek medical advice now. I would refrain from temp charting if your cycle has lengthened. Ovulation is not an exact science and ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.
