Can we get a less painful type of injection on the NHS?

Going for 2nd IUI but can't handle pain!!

Do you use a pen or can you see the actual injection? I found that it didn't hurt as much when we used the pen thing as i couldn't see the needle IYKWIM. I still have mine if you want it, good luck

try asking for some anaesthetic cream (long shot)
Nurse at my surgery gives it me on prescription for ds's when they have a jab and they can't feel a thing!
Wish they had told me about it sooner, have only used it for last 2 jabs and it is fantastic

popadums, i will be starting iui soon, on my last treatment i injected on the belly...nurse said it wouldnt hurt so much there...where are you injecting?

also it helped me by pinching another part of my body at the same time dh injected me, this was to concentrate on that pain rather than waiting for the injection pain, iyswim

popadums - I am needle-phobic, so dreaded the thought of injections for IUI....especially as I had to give the injections to myself. However, I simply told myself that during the process of being pregnant/giving birth/being a mum I would have to make lots of sacrifices, and do quite a few things that I'd prefer to avoid....and needles were only the first thing.

The harsh reality is if you're trying to have a baby using fertility treatments, you must be prepared to have injections, have blood taken (many times), and various other medical proceedures - so you'll see quite a few needles no matter what. I wish I could offer more practical help, but think it's a matter of thinking "if I really want a baby, this is what I must do" and then just make yourself do it. Good luck.

Popadums - do you mean the insertion of the catheter? I've got a feeling you might - given what you've said on another thread.....

We were using needles. The jab doesn't hurt but the 75ml of Gonal F going in does! We inject into the front of belly and looked like a drug addict after with all the bruising.
Whimsey what difference do these 'pens' have and where can we get one??
Welshmum. The insemination was excrutiating. The doctor had to get another clamp due to cervix being wrong way? What ever that meant.

I think only certain drugs fit into certain pens. I placed a bag of frozen peas over the area first and then dh injected. Not sure how much the peas worked, but the feeling of the coldness took away the feeling of injection.

The only thing the pen does really is hide the neddle

popadums, i know what you mean about the actual fluid going in that hurts...it sort of gives a burning sensation that seems to last forever!!

best thing i could do is make lots of noise like a loud humming noise (hoping no neighbours witnessed this, they would think im a junkie getting high if they were around!) and i continued to pinch another part of my body to take away the pain like i said earlier
