Help! Trying to conceive, nearly 40, starting to get down about it.

Hi, been trying to conceive for just over a year now. Feel like I am in a race against time (not sure where this feeling has come from?) to become pregnant before I am 40. Shit thing is, most of my friends have children or are pregnant or just given birth and I am starting to feel uncomfortable with my negative feelings about them even though I am really happy for them too. I just want to cry and shout and am all over the place. Taking it out on DH too.

Anyone out there in a similar situation?
Anyone out there who can help?

I have lots of questions regarding TTC but will stick with this post for now.

I got very emotional and shouty when TTC - my hormones were all over the place which didn't help. Have you tried alternative therapies? When I'd been TTC for 6 months I went for bloods at the Dr and was told I wasn't OV. That made me even more of a cry baby! Then I booked myself in for lots of alternative therapies which really made me feel like I was 'doing something'. It helped my attitude become more positive too

No I have not tried any alternative therapies. Can you recommend any?

The sooner you ask your doctor to refer you for investigations the sooner you'll get seen.

I am having reflexology and while I am not totally convinced that it's going to help me get pregnant it does help me feel good about myself and do the dreaded relaxing thing.

My periods were all over the place and I was getting migraines with them. Mum said "ah, that's how my menopause started" so I went and saw a reflexologist because I was TTC and that was not what I wanted to hear. I had just turned 40. Six months later, and with pain-free, regular periods, I got pregnant with DS (now 5 months old).

Who knows if that's what got my hormones back on the right track, but my sister swore by reflexology too, when TTC no. 2 (now aged 4).

I can highly recommend acupuncture and hypnotherapy. I felt great after both, as for thier effect on fertility I can't say as I was (unknowingly) PG the whole time I had them Also my friend swears by homeopathy but I found it a bit hit & miss.

Hi I had DD at 37 and had to use fertility drug clomid - that was after a frustrating 18 months of trying. Am now 41 and TTC number 2. nothing happening and so went to see GP who immediately referred me to gynae. Just been prescribed clomid again as hormone tests showed an imbalance.

What I'm trying to say (in my own experience anyway!) is to anyone in their late 30's having problems conceiving, as a first step go to GP and request blood test to screen hormones. This trying to conceive business takes time and you sometimes need to give things a helping hand.

Sometimes is a case of waiting, trying alternative therapies. But if there is an underlying problem that can be treated then its best to get things sorted quickly

Yes, I agree, going to spk to doc this week to refer me to gynae to check on my hormones. My list of questions is growing thanks to MN.
